Farmington High Students Invite Kids to Give Up Candy for UNICEF

Children willing to trick-or-treat for UNICEF can pick up boxes at the school.

While many children in Farmington and Farmington Hills will be out collecting Halloween treats Monday night, others around the world are suffering for lack of food, clean water and health care.

The (FHS) Interact International Club and Model United Nations Club invite children throughout the community to consider giving up a little Halloween candy this year, and trick-or-treat for small donations to UNICEF (United Nations Children's Fund)

“I’m sure parents, doctors, and dentists in the area would agree that it makes sense not to buy and hand out Halloween candy—or maybe just scale way back for those who can’t break with tradition," club adviser Roxanne Meacham said. "It would be better for all kids not to give out candy. Dressing up in costumes and going out is fun, so collecting coins for children in need is a great way to shake it up and make Halloween about helping kids."
