Farmington Hills Resident Honored at Philanthropy Day Dinner

Lynn Pheney is an active volunteer with Starfish Family Services in Inkster.

Farmington Hills resident Lynn Pheney will be honored as a distinguished volunteer Nov. 13, at the Association of Fundraising Professionals, Greater Detroit Chapter, annual National Philanthropy Day Dinner.

Pheney is an active volunteer with Starfish Family Services, an Inkster-based nonprofit organization dedicated to creating brighter futures for the children of at risk families in metropolitan Detroit,

“Lynn Pheney is best described as ‘uplifting’ and is an amazing advocate for children," Starfish CEO Ann Kalass said. "In the 1990s, she organized festive holiday parties for Starfish foster children, then founded Starfish’s Adopt-A-Family program in the early 2000s."

Kalass said that more than 200 families receive holiday help annually through the Adopt-A-Family program. "Lynn continues to be a treasured ambassador and volunteer for Starfish, and without her ongoing efforts we would not have realized our many successes over the years.”

Among other volunteer activities, Pheney organized and coordinates the funeral lunch program at Our Lady of Sorrow Church in Farmington.
