Farmington Resident Dances to Raise Funds for Diabetes Research

Amy Lange will be among the 'Dancing with Our Local Stars' celebrities at the Troy event.

Farmington resident and WJBK-TV Channel 2 reporter Amy Lange is among the local celebrities participating in "Dancing with our Local Stars,” a fundraiser to benefit the American Diabetes Association, on Friday, Sept. 30, 2011 at the San Marino Club, 1685 E. Big Beaver in Troy. 

Lange and her dancing partner, Fernando, have set up a fundraising page at dancing.myevent.com. They'll also offer a preview at 10 a.m. Sept. 20 during the at the in Farmington Hills.

Hosted by Tri-County Business Exchange, "Dancing with Our Local Stars" will feature a dance competition with local celebrities, an exciting dance showcase by professional dancers, strolling food stations by some of metro Detroit’s favorite restaurants for VIP and reserved ticket holders, a silent auction, dancing through 1 a.m., and an opportunity to dance with the stars.

In addition to Lange, celebrity dancers will include Annette Kelly, 2011 Mrs. Michigan United States; Carol Cain, producer and host of Michigan Matters and Detroit Free Press columnist; Donna Barbera, WJR radio personality; Eric Smith, Macomb County prosecutor; Peter Nielsen, world-renowned fitness expert; Sean Forbes, deaf recording artist and D-PAN Founder; and Terry Foster, WXYT-FM 97.1 radio personality.

Professional dancers will include 2011 Miss Michigan Elizabeth Wertenberger, Natalka Cap and Rich Jaramillo and Anja and Tom Walthall.

Area restaurants participating in the strolling food stations are: Achatz Handmade Pie Company, Bahama Breeze, Brio Tuscan Grill, Cedar Grill, Dickey’s Barbecue Pit, Just Baked Cupcakes & Coffee House, Kim’s Chinese Restaurant, Kona Grill, Los Locos Cantina, Orchid Café, Polish Village Café, The Melting Pot and Treat Dreams.

VIP Tickets are $75 and include a champagne reception with celebrities, passed hors d'oeuvres, premier seating, strolling food stations and a VIP gift bag. Doors open at 7 p.m. Reserved tickets are $50 and include reserved seating and strolling food stations. Doors open at 8 p.m. General admission is $25; doors open at 9 p.m.
