Join the Friends of the Farmington Community Library for Annual Gala

There's still time to join the organization and get your invitation to the June 1 event.

 

The award-winning Great Lakes Chorus of Sweet Adelines International will entertain at this year's Friends of the Farmington Community Library Annual Members Gala June 1,  7 p.m., at the  in Farmington Hills.

The event begins with a short business meeting and is followed by light refreshments and entertainment. Back by popular demand, the 70-member all-women chorus sings popular and original music in four-part barbershop style harmony, in a highly entertaining performance.

The Friends of the Library, a non-profit organization with over 1,300 members, promotes literacy by strengthening and enlarging the scope of Library services and resources available to the Farmington/Farmington Hills community. 

In February, the Friends’ board approved a request for $12,000 to purchase additional copies of the most popular e-book titles and to offer new titles, for children and teens. In addition, donations go to purchase books, DVDs, on-line resources and library publications, as well as sponsoring special programs for children, teens and adults throughout the year.

Friends support events like Battle of the Books, the Summer Reading Club, the Seniors Story Tellers programs, visits by popular authors and much more. During 2011-2012, the Friends, through a combination of dues and fund-raising efforts were able to donate nearly $117,000 to the Library for a wide variety of resources, programs and services. 

Gala attendance is by invitation only, but it is not too late to become part of the Friends of the Library organization and join in the fun. Membership information is available at the circulation desk at either the Main Branch on Twelve Mile Road or at the , on Liberty Street in downtown Farmington.
