June 8 Fun Run in Farmington Hills to Benefit Cipriano Children's Fund

The Farmington Family YMCA will host the event to help the family of Bob Cipriano, who was murdered in an April attack.

Friends of a Farmington Hills family devastated by have organized a 5K Fun Run & Walk to benefit the Cipriano Children's Fund. 

Registration is open for the June 8 event, which organizers say will benefit the family fund "in heart and sole." Runners and walkers will meet at the for stretches at 6:30 p.m., followed by the 7 p.m. race. 

Cost is $25 for entries postmarked by June 2 or in person until June 6, but participants must register by May 25 to guarantee a T-shirt. Registration the day of the event is $30.

Participants can register on-line at www.active.com, or by returning the flyer posted with this article to the YMCA. Sponsorship and in-kind donations are also welcome, contact Denise Morgott at dmorgott@earthlink.net or 248-496-4975 for a sponsorship packet.

A groundswell of support has surrounded the family since the April 16 murder of , 52, and assaults on his wife, Rose, 51, and son Salvatore, 17, in their Farmington Hills home. Two Cipriano children, Isabella, 8, and Salvatore's twin brother, Tanner, were at home during the attacks, but were not injured.

The Ciprianos' oldest son, Tucker, 19, and his friend Mitchell Young, 20, face felony charges in connection with the murder and assaults. 

 to an undisclosed rehab facility; Salvatore remains at  in Farmington Hills. Both suffered head injuries, which hospital officials have said will likely require a lengthy period of recovery. 

Over the past month, benefits for the Cipriano Children's Fund have been held or planned:

  • In Bay City, where Rose Cipriano was a champion swimmer, the Bay City Times reports that friends will host “Swim for Rose” on May 19, at the Handy Middle School pool. 
  • Organizers of the annual  in Northville have set up their event, held June 22, as a benefit for the Cipriano family. 
  • Students at , where 8-year-old Isabella Cipriano is a student, ,  and  high schools have held fundraisers for the family.
