Learn More About Main Street Volunteering During July 31 Stroll

Visit local businesses and meet Main Street committee members.

Learn more about the committees behind the Farmington Downtown Development Authority (DDA) Main Street program during a Volunteer Stroll July 31, 6:30 p.m.-8:30 p.m. in downtown Farmington.

The event will give interested citizens the opportunity to learn how they can help Downtown Farmington grow by volunteering to serve on one of the four Main Street Committees: Business Development, Design, Organization or Promotions.

“We’ve structured the stroll as a fun way to meet the committees behind the Main Street Program in our community,” said DDA president Melissa Andrade. “Attendees will actually walk through the town to the different committee stations; as they are walking, they’ll see the DDA-inspired progress in the Downtown,  such as the Grove Street project and the soon-to-open Los Tres Amigos restaurant.”

Andrade invites anyone who wants to take part in the growing vitality in the community to participate and learn more about committee opportunities that would suit their skills or desires.

“The Farmington Downtown Development Authority has participated in the Main Street Program since 2003 in an effort to strengthen our local economy and protect our historic buildings,” said Annette Knowles, DDA Executive Director. “The program is under the auspices of the National Main Street Center and uses the Main Street Four Point Approach® methodology; thus the four Main Street Committees.”

The Business Development Committee is responsible for just that: retention, recruitment and redevelopment of businesses in Downtown Farmington. The Design Committee works to ensure Downtown Farmington continues to improve at being an aesthetically and functionally desirable destination for people and businesses.  The Organization Committee is charged with building consensus and cooperation among the many groups and individuals who have a vital role in the revitalization process through volunteer recruitment and various forms of communications (i.e. news releases and a biannual Farmington DDA newsletter). The Promotions Committee is responsible for marketing the district’s assets to customers, potential new investors and businesses, citizens and vistors.

During the July 31 Main Street Volunteer Stroll, representative from each committee will be present at four locations scattered throughout the downtown: Bellis Therapeutic Spa, Painting with a Twist, Mike Greer Photography Studio and the Mentobe Café. They will briefly explain what each committee does and answers any questions.

Each location will provide different refreshments. Strollers are encouraged to first pick up a passport at the Pavilion to get stamped by each committee visited. If they visit all four committees, there’s an opportunity to win a $25 John Cowley & Sons gift certificate. Completed passports will be placed in a drawing for two certificates. Winners will be notified by email or phone.
