'Not Your Ordinary Golf Event' Honors Long-time Farmington Hills Council Member

There's still time to sign up for the June 27 Jon Grant Signature Classic, which benefits programs supported by the Xemplar Club.

The Eighth Annual Jon Grant Signature Classic charity golf event will be held at the on Wednesday, June 27 beginning at 9:30 a.m. with preliminaries (registration, continental breakfast, range practice, and putting contests) followed by a shotgun start at 11 a.m.

The annual event is named in honor of Jon Grant, former Farmington Hills mayor, 14-year city council member, and longtime community activist, who passed away in August 2003. It draws several hundred community and business leaders from Farmington Hills and surrounding areas, with all proceeds benefiting youth programs supported by the Xemplar Club of Farmington/Farmington Hills.

“This is not your ordinary golf event - just like Jon, it’s totally fun, unique, and dedicated to supporting our community and its young people,” said Steve Brock, Farmington Hills city manager and event co-chair. “The response to the previous seven golf events has been fantastic and I’m sure the Eighth Annual Golf Classic will be the best ever.”

The day’s activities will include golf, dinner, a raffle for a chance to win a weekend trip for two to Mackinac Island, a sports ticket package (including Tigers, Lions, and Red Wings tickets), and other fun items. 

“Jon would be pleased and honored to know that his name is attached to such a worthy cause,” said honorary chair Deborah Grant. “On behalf of our family, I’d like to thank the Xemplar Club and the entire community for carrying on Jon’s commitment and legacy.”

Last year’s event raised nearly $10,000 and supported the , Boys and Girls Republic, Farmington Area Goodfellows, Neighborhood House, Haven, After School Youth Programs, and other charitable organizations that support at-risk children, families, and seniors in the community.

Opportunities are still available to be an event sponsor and to donate prizes. The Xemplar Club is a 501c3 public charity, and donors receive recognition in the event program as well as a receipt for tax purposes.
