Optimists Free Forum Features a Look at Local History Tonight

Meet at the Longacre House to learn about many 'Farmington Firsts' with historian Brian Golden.

The Farmington/Farmington Hills Optimist Club is hosting a free forum tonight at in Farmington Hills, featuring a look at “The Many Firsts of Farmington” with local historian Brian Golden.

Did you know that the first female architect in the state of Michigan was from Farmington Hills? Emily Butterfield was the daughter of the first Mayor. The Botsford Inn was the first to show Broadway plays in Michigan. There are numerous other examples, and Golden has put them all together in a multimedia show.

After the presentation and light dinner, there will be a tour of the neighboring .

The Farmington-Farmington Hills Optimist Club sponsors youth-oriented programs throughout the year, including an Essay Contest, Oratorical Contest, Leadership Awards, Junior Golf Tournament, Junior Optimist service clubs and more. On the fourth Wednesday of each month, the Club sponsors public meeting with a guest speaker on a topic relevant to their creed, “Bringing out the best in kids.”
