Walkers Raise Funds to Combat Hunger May 6 in Downtown Farmington

The 26th annual Crop Walk is expected to draw scores of volunteers to downtown Farmington May 6, to raise funds that support worldwide efforts to alleviate hunger and provide emergency supplies.

Over the years, hundreds of people, young and old, families, seniors, children (and more than a few dogs) have participated in the event, a project of Church World Services. In 2011 almost 200 walkers, representing 18 churches and synagogues, raised $26,747.

Registration for the 2012 walk starts at 1 p.m. at  on Grand River.

Of the funds raised, 25 percent stays in the community supporting Neighborhood House, Food Cupboard, , Yad Ezra and the Baldwin Center.

A wide range of businesses provide refreshments for the walkers, cash donations to underwrite expenses and gift certificates for a silent auction to supplement income from the walk.
