Farmington Hills Nature Center Homeschool, Preschool Classes Start This Week

Naturalists will lead programs in Heritage Park starting Jan. 14.

The City of Farmington Hills Nature Discovery Center in Heritage Park begins its winter classes for kids who are homeschooled and preschoolers this week.

Starting Jan. 14, a naturalist will lead hands-on, memorable experiences outdoors for homeschoolers ages 5-12, while exploring a different nature theme each week. Programs meet every Tuesday, through March 4, 1 p.m.-2:30 p.m., and give parents the opportunity to socialize as well. Cost is $40 per child for the winter.

Winter preschool classes meet Jan. 14-March 6, on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday mornings:

  • Nature’s Little Artists meets Mondays from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. for ages 1½ to 4.
  • Little Trekkers meets Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. for ages 1 to 4.
  • Young Explorers meets Thursdays from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. for ages 4 to 6.
Pre-registration is required for Nature’s Little Artists; the fee is $56 for residents and $66 for non-residents. Little Trekkers and Young Explorers offer a special drop-in fee of $8 per class, paid at the door. For a discounted rate, pre-register at recreg.fhgov.com or at the Costick Center.

Little Trekkers and Nature’s Little Artists require parents to attend class with their child. Children must be potty trained to participate in Young Explorers, as it is a drop-off class.
