Tribute to Walkers and More This Week in Farmington and Farmington Hills

Dean Cobb and Duane Fox will be honored Monday for their 224-mile walk to benefit suicide prevention.

Farmington Hills city council members will pay tribute Monday to a pair of retirees who walked more than 200 miles to raise funds and awareness for suicide prevention. 

Here's information about a reception in their honor and more events on this week's Patch calendar

1. Farmington Area Suicide Prevention Task Force Reception

Dean Cobb and Duane Fox will be honored during this Monday, 6:30 p.m. event at Farmington Hills city hall and will receive a proclamation during the 7:30 p.m. city council meeting. Read more about their 224-mile September walk: North Farmington Retirees Plan 224-Mile Walk for Suicide Awareness

2. Dave Bennett Trio performance

Michigan clarinetist Dave Bennett gives this free concert at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, in the Smith Theatre at Oakland Community College Orchard Ridge Campus. This event is hosted by the Adult Learning 
Institute as part of its fall semester. 

3. Keeping the P.E.A.C.E

Learn simple ways to improve your relationship with your children, presented Wednesday, 7 p.m., at the Farmington Community Library Main Library by registered play therapist Dr. Laura Hutchinson. Free and open to anyone. Register at farmlib.org or call 248-553-0300.

4. Eating Healthy with Diabetes Workshop

Get recipe and snack ideas, learn about alternatives to some of your not-so-healthy meal favorites and ask all your diabetes-related questions on Wednesday, 6 p.m., at Busch’s Fresh Food Market. For tickets, call 248-427-7400 or stop by the Busch's Farmington Hills Guest Services Desk.

5. Botsford Cardiologist Leads October 17 "Walk with a Doc"

Dr. Nathan Foster, cardiologist, will discuss how to prevent sudden cardiac death during this event at noon on Thursday in Heritage Park. There's no charge, but call to register, 877-477-Doc1 (3621), option 1.
