Farmington Farmers Market Plans Corny Fun This Weekend

From outdoor music and dancing to a good, old-fashioned carnival, there's plenty to do in Farmington and Farmington Hills.

The Farmington Elks Club will team up with Farmington Farmers and Artisans Market growers in downtown Farmington on Saturday for an annual event that signals the beginning of the end of summer.

Here's more about the corn roast and other fun stuff you can do this weekend:

1. Chow down on corn at the market

Purchase corn for a buck an ear Saturday, with proceeds benefiting the Farmington Elks. Music at the market, 10 a.m.-2 p.m., features Sinjon Smith, with vocalists Diane Smith and guitarist Chris Wietzke, and lead guitarist Marc Davis. The market moves back home this week, to its original location at the Walter E. Sundquist Farmington Pavilion and Riley Park.

2. Listen to music in the open air.

On Thursday, the Farmington Community Band Big Band performs in Heritage Park, and on Friday, Rhythmz in Riley Park in downtown Farmington features the country stylings of Terrie Lea & the Mustangs. Both concerts start at 7 p.m., and they're both FREE.

3. Have as much fun as a kid at the carnival.

The Family Fun Fest at Founders Sports Park starts Thursday, 5 p.m. Admission is free, and you can still find discount ride tickets at hundreds of local merchants, or online at www.elliottsamusements.com

4. Swing dance, or learn how

The third annual Swinginfusion Farmington Rampage Swing Dance gets underway Thursday at 8:30 p.m. at the Walter E. Sundquist Farmington Pavilion. Come at 8  p.m. and learn how to swing dance. Admission is $5.

5. Learn about energy healing

Saturday's Stardust Holistic Festival at the Village Mall in downtown Farmington includes speakers on topics like energy healing, Reiki, yoga, Bowenwork and more. Visit the event's Facebook page for a complete schedule and more information.
