5 Things You Should Know Today - Aug. 29, 2012

Busch's and Botsford team up to teach Farmington area kids about health snacks and lunches.

As we move closer to the unofficial end of summer, families have an opportunity today to get ready for a healthy start to the school year.  Here's what else you should know: There may be some patchy fog around the metro area this morning, so check our real-time traffic map for road conditions. The National Weather Service predicts a sunny day with a high around 80, and a clear night with a low around 60.  This workshop for kids ages 8-13, held at Busch's Fresh Food Market in Farmington Hills, focuses on getting a healthy start to the new school year. The National Weather Service predicts tonight's low will dip around 62, under clear skies.  Paula Messner and Maggie McCabe will bring a guitar and a mandolin to Walter E. Sundquist Farmington Pavilion and Riley Park today at 7 p.m. The duo plays original music, along with Candy Band favorites and rockin’ acoustic American songs. This Wednesday brings the opportunity to learn more about mental illness or about growing and selling produce.

Tonight, you can learn more about the challenges faced by people who live with, and are recovering from, mental illness, wrapped up in a Wizard of Oz theme. Here's what else you should know today: It's going to be another hot one. It is predicted to again be a high of 95 degrees. The evening is expected to be around 72, according to the National Weather Service. 5 Things You Should Know Today - May 30, 2012

Celebrate Michigan beer and wine, and help adults with developmental disabilities and local youth programs, this evening at Longacre House in Farmington Hills.

Today's weather may be a little cooler, but you can attend an event tonight that looks like a real heart-warmer. Here's what else you should know today: Temperatures are expected to drop into the 60s today, under mostly sunny skies. The National Weather Service predicts a low tonight around 43.  This special tasting at the Longacre House is hosted by the Xemplar Club, Community Living Centers and Farmington Hills Youth and Family Services After-School Program. The fun starts at 5 p.m. today, with appetizers, entertainment, Michigan beers and wines, door prizes and more. Proceeds will provide support for youth programs and people with developmental disabilities.
