The Farmington School Board meets tonight at North Farmington High School, to recognize a large number of creative students.

Tonight, Farmington Public Schools officials will hold their regular meeting, but not in its regular place, because students who participated in this year's PTA (Parent Teacher Association) Reflections program will be honored. Here's what else you should know today: The heat stays with us today, as the National Weather Service predicts a high around 82. There's a 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms before 8 a.m., and winds may gust as high as 26 miles per hour. Peters Brings Consumer Protection Panel to Farmington Hills

Experts share information and resources to consumers facing mortgage, credit card and other financial problems.

Zixta Martinez made one thing clear as she spoke Monday night about the federal government's new Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB). "Credit is not a bad thing by itself," said Martinez, who is assistant director for the CFPB's office of community affairs. "Credit is a good thing ... but we want to make sure it is being done in a responsible way."  Speaking during a public forum at Oakland Community College Orchard Ridge in Farmington Hills, she said her agency's vision is to make sure the financial industry is fair, transparent and competitive when it comes to dealing with consumers. Credit counseling companies like Green Path are not owned by banks in a share holder type of capacity. They are owned by banks due to the funding received from banks. Banks tell credit counseling companies what can and cannot be done. This has the affect of being controlled by banks.
