Come dressed in your finest Academy Awards attire for this event at the Farmington Civic Theater.
Tickets are still available for the Farmington Community Library Red Carpet Event, held Feb. 10 at the Farmington Civic Theater. The local showing of Academy Award-nominated short films officially kicks off "I Geek the Library," a year-long initiative designed to raise awareness about the library and what it brings to the community. The word "geek" is used as a verb, meaning: Seating is limited, and tickets are $15 a person and $25 a couple, available at the Main Library and Farmington branch. After leaving Chicago in 2009 unsure of his economic or educational future, Calvin O'Neal Jr. won the 2012 Academy Award in the Best Animated Short Film Category.
Calvin O'Neal Jr. is the kind of person who wants others to understand how he feels — for better or for worse. Raised in Farmington Hills, the 2008 Orchard Lake St. Mary's graduate has worked as a film editor for Moonbot Studios in Shreveport, LA for two years, where he gets to live out his childhood dreams of direction, production, editing, and acting, all cultivated on Orchard Lake Road, where he grew up in Farmington Hills. The students and faculty of Oakland Community College’s Culinary Studies Institute will present a star-studded dinner Feb. 16 to celebrate the 84th Annual Academy Awards at OCC’s Orchard Ridge Campus in Farmington Hills. The wine-inclusive event begins at 6 p.m. The ticket price of $60 includes a six-course dinner that begins with passed hors d’oeuvres and a cash bar. It is planned and executed by student managers of the school's Events and Catering class. The cuisine is prepared by student chefs of the Buffet and Banquets class.
