Nominations Open for City of Farmington Hills Beautification Awards

A new award this year honors work that displays environmental sensitivity.

The City of Farmington Hills Beautification Commission has opened nominations for its annual awards for businesses, offices, and subdivision or condominium entrances with attractive and well-maintained landscapes. Judges visit nominated sites to look for landscape variety, imaginative use of color, and overall property maintenance. This year, the Commission offers a special award for Environmental Sensitivity. Nomination forms are now available on the City website at www.fhgov.com and are due on June 28. Awards will be presented at the 2013 Beautification Commission Awards Ceremony on Oct. 24 at the Costick Center. For information, contact the Planning Office, 248-871-2540. Farmington Beautification Award Winners Honored

Six homes and two businesses earn the coveted bronze plaques.

Six homeowners and two businesses have been honored for their efforts to make Farmington a prettier place to live. The city's Beautification Committee distributed the 2012 Beautification Awards were awarded Sept. 27 on the porch of the Warner Mansion. The city has recognized outstanding gardeners for the past 12 years. During the ceremony, committe chair Larry Kilner cited a favorite quote, words spoken by Abraham Lincoln: “I like to see a man proud of the place in which he lives, and I like to a man live so that his place is proud of him.” The purpose of these awards, he said, is to stimulate pride in our city and encourage neighborhoods to improve their image.
