Shamrock fans show their spirit for Novi school during entire championship game.
Even though Novi's Catholic Central fell short in its bid to win its 12th state championship on Saturday, Shamrock pride was front and center at Ford Field. Catholic Central High School lost to Detroit Cass Tech, 49-13, but the thousands that showed up wearing blue and white said they were proud of the squad’s effort and entire run through the post-season. “We’re fortunate to have been here,” said Father Dennis Kauffman, Detroit Catholic Central’s director of school improvement. “You look at the number of schools in the state of Michigan, we were one of 16 to make it this far. DETROIT – The Catholic Central High School football team hasn’t had a day this bad in more than 40 years. The Shamrocks suffered its worst loss since 1971 on high school football’s biggest stage, falling to Detroit Cass Tech 49-13 Saturday at the Division 1 State Championships at Ford Field. “Today, we just came unraveled,” said Tom Mach, Catholic Central's head coach. For Mach, it was the first time in 36 years as the Shamrocks coach that an opponent forced a running clock, a 35-point or greater deficit in the second half, against his team. DETROIT - Novi's Catholic Central High School will have an uphill battle if it wants to win the Division 1 state finals. The Shamrocks are down at halftime 21-7 to Cass Tech at Ford Field. Freshman quarterback Jayru Campbell led the Technicians in the first half with 166 passing yards and two touchdowns. Anthony Darkangelo scored Catholic Central's lone touchdown on a 47-yard pass from Kyle Cooper in the second quarter. Directions: Ford Field is located at 2000 Brush St., just south of Interstate 75 (Fisher Freeway) and across Brush Street from Comerica Park. Suggested routes are listed on the Ford Field website. Parking: The attached parking map (PDF) indicates lots around Ford Field and routes to get there. There are several parking garages in the area that are within a short distance of the stadium.
