Served with a salad and soup, there's more than enough of this traditional Korean dish to go around.
I'm not a big sushi person, but we're regulars at Michigan Sushi House on Farmington Rd. in Farmington, thanks to a delightfully entertaining Korean dish called bebimbap. Even before you sit down and pick up your chopsticks, the staff makes you feel welcome. And there's something wonderful about being served hot tea without being charged for it. That's the essence of the best Cheap Eats deals – getting more than you expect: Deal: Bebimbap, $10.95 What you get: This delicious mixture of rice and vegetables, with beef, chicken or seafood (all the same price), is served sizzling in a piping hot stone bowl and topped with an egg cooked sunny side up. Your server mixes the dish (or you can do it) with a red-hot chili sauce as the egg continues …

Hard to say which is more fun, getting an inexpensive dinner or taking a walk down memory lane.
When it comes to themed restaurants, Mayberry's on Grand River in Farmington Hills is one of my favorites. But I don't keep going back just to see all the Andy Griffith Show decor. In its 21st year, this cozy restaurant's menu includes one of my favorite Cheap Eats deals: Deal: "Monster Bake" 1-Plus Pound Baked Potato Cost: $5.99 each What you get: Mayberry's serves up huge bakers, cooked to perfection and heaped with a variety of toppings. My favorite is broccoli and cheddar, because the veggies are brightly colored and flavorful and the cheese is real cheddar, not some saucy goop. You can also order a veggie mix, bacon and cheddar, taco fixings or chili as toppers. I've gotten close, but never managed to clean my plate. Bill for two …

The Farmington Hills restaurant offers a Saturday deal, with drink purchase.
A Farmington-Farmington Hills Patch reader spotted today's Cheap Eats deal at Grand Tavern and emailed a photo of a promotional poster for their 2 for $20 deal on Saturdays. I've been going to the restaurant at Drake and Grand River since it was an Applebee's and am a big fan of their home-made potato chips. Sandwiches and burgers were the extent of my experience with the menu, until last night. Because if there's a deal to be had at a Farmington or Farmington Hills restaurant, I've got to give it a look-see. Here's what we found at: Deal: 2 for $20 Saturdays Cost: $20 plus the cost of two drinks (soft drinks allowed, they're $2.29 each) What you get: The deal includes an appetizer and two entrees. There are some limitations: A drink …

Even with a drink purchase, this deal makes it easier to start your week with dinner out.
From the time I first moved to town, I've been a semi-regular at Page's Food & Spirits, for lunch, dinner and special events. We live maybe a block and a half from the restaurant, but it wasn't until we wandered in on a random Monday evening that I discovered the restaurant offers one of the best Cheap Eats deals in town: Deal: Half-off Mondays What you get: With a drink purchase (and it doesn't have to be alcohol - bonus!), you can take half-off any sandwich, salad, burger, Light Side and Other Favorites menu item. Most sandwiches come with a generous side of seasoned fries. Bill for two diners: Two fish sandwiches and soft drinks, $15.40. Simply put, two can eat as cheaply as one at Page's on Monday nights. What makes this deal special…

The Farmington Hills restaurant offers a salad so big, it feeds two.
When you don't cook, it's easy to get caught up in the habit of eating fast food, and fast food restaurants make that pretty easy. For $5, you can get a foot-long sandwich at Subway or a whole cheese or pepperoni pizza from Little Ceasar's. But for just under $2 more, you can have a fresh salad. And that's the subject of today's Cheap Eats: Deal: Cobb Salad Cost: $6.89 What you get: I've eaten plenty of greens in my time, but I've never seen a "small" salad this large. A dinner-plate-sized bowl is literally heaping with lettuce, cheese, fresh cucumbers, juicy tomatoes, a hard-boiled egg, real bacon and moist, flavorful grilled chicken. We split the salad, which is served with grilled pita, and do not leave the table hungry. Bill for two …

A non-cook shares local deals that help keep her out of the kitchen.
Sometimes, you just have to own up to who you really are and make the most of it. To paraphrase a certain former president, I'm not a cook. I have never enjoyed cooking, baking, frying, broiling, grilling or anything else that involves taking food from its natural form and turning it into something delicious. In fact, whenever I do any of those things, the result would likely not be described as "something delicious". The smoke alarm is my oven timer, if you follow where I've drifted. And because birds of a feather tend to flock together, the man I married also does not enjoy cooking – although his two specialty dishes, French onion soup and eggplant parmesan, can keep us dining in for days. Still, we would rather say, "Where are we …
