Artist in Residence Works Featured in Farmington Hills City Gallery

Artist Allen Brown displays a collection of his free-form baskets through March 1.

Intriguing baskets by artist Allen Brown, the Farmington Area Art Commission’s 2012 Artist in Residence, will be on exhibit through March 1 at the Farmington Hills City Gallery in the Costick Center. William Allen Brown is a talented basket weaver whose free-form creations include natural fibers woven into fluent shapes. Brown never creates two baskets alike but lets the materials, which often include horns or antlers, determine the direction of the design. Brown’s career as an artist began when he retired from his downtown Farmington dental practice and was searching for a way to expand his creativity. Great Lakes Beadworkers Guild Display Opens Sept. 24 at City Gallery

The Guild's "Synergy" exhibit reflects the work of many artists working with a theme that supports the City of Detroit's revitalization.

A display of unique beadwork by members of the Great Lakes Beadworkers Guild will be on exhibit at the City Gallery in Farmington Hills from Sept. 24 to Nov. 11. The exhibit, named “Synergy” for the cooperative efforts of its many artists, will feature elaborate decorative pieces, jewelry, and variations of other items that celebrate the use of beads in their creation. The exhibit’s theme is “Yeah…Detroit, So Bead It,” in support of raising awareness for the revitalization of the City of Detroit. The Great Lakes Beadworkers Guild celebrates its 20th anniversary in 2012. Farmington Hills City Gallery Features 'Peaceful Vistas'

Rochester Hills artist Patrice Erickson's original oils reflect her love of nature.

Soft, light-filled landscapes by talented artist Patrice Erickson are featured in an exhibit titled “Peaceful Vistas” at the Farmington Hills City Gallery, located in the Costick Center, now through Feb. 24.   Erickson’s exhibit contains all original oils, which glow with luminous color and are evidence of the Rochester Hills artist's love of nature. “I’m inspired by nature’s transcendent beauty…I’m striving for landscapes with depth and richness of color, that are strong statements about serene moments created to give a sense of my personal experience with nature," Erickson said.
