Stolen Phone in Farmington Hills? Police Use an App for That

A Farmington Hills Police officer used an app on his smart phone Monday to help track a stolen iPhone. According to the report, a woman at a bar on Eight Mile Road told police she went outside to smoke a cigarette and realized that she left her phone inside. When she returned, the phone was gone.  The woman was able to track the phone through an iPad app, but eventually lost service. The officer who responded was able to pick up the iPhone's trail on his phone and continued tracking it west of the bar. The report did not indicate whether the phone was recovered.  A 27-year-old Garden City man faces a charge of intent to sell marijuana, after police found him passed out late Monday night, in a car parked at a business lot in the Eight Mile …

Farmington Hills, Farmington, Livonia Businesses Report Break-Ins Tuesday

In Farmington Hills, cash and cigarettes are taken from a gas station and a convenience store.

Alarms went off at two Farmington Hills businesses early Tuesday morning, after their front doors were smashed open.  According to reports, businesses at Grand River and Drake in Farmington and Newburgh and Five Mile Road in Livonia also reported break-ins.  The reports indicated that Farmington Hills officers responded to alarms at a convenience store on Farmington Road north of Eight Mile, and a gas station at Middlebelt and Grand River, between 1:30 a.m. and 2:30 a.m.  At the store, police found a pack of Newport cigarettes near the front door, and the business owner confirmed an unknown number of Newport packs were stolen, according to the report. A video surveillance camera caught what happened at the gas station, where $300 in cash …

Police Investigate Theft of Coins, Jewelry, Tools from Farmington Hills Apartments

Residents living in two Farmington Hills apartments told police they returned home Monday evening to find items taken. According to the Farmington Hills Police report, both residents said they locked their door, including the deadbolt, before leaving their homes in the 24000 block of Madison Court. In both apartments, sliding patio doors were found open, with sticks that had been placed to secure them resting against the wall. The report indicated that the apartments were ransacked, and cash, jewelry, tools, a 50-inch television, a video game console and games were taken.  A 23-year-old Bloomfield Hills woman faces a charge of drunken driving, after police stopped her vehicle for speeding and driving erratically early Tuesday morning at …

Two Arrests in Farmington Hills Monday May Solve a Dozen Crimes

Police say the men taken into custody late Monday night may also be connected with crimes in other communities.

Two men arrested late Monday night in Farmington Hills may be responsible for at least a dozen crimes in Farmington Hills and Farmington, according to Farmington Hills Police.  Commander Matt Koehn said he expects the men to be arraigned Wednesday or Thursday. Details of the local investigation were sent Wednesday to authorities in other cities.  "It looks like they were going into construction trailers and trucks and removing tools," Koehn said.  According to the Farmington Hills Police report, investigators suspected a red van was connected to a series of break-ins, and officers spotted it Monday night parked at a construction site near Nine Mile Road and Tuck. Farmington Hills Teen With Medical Marijuana Card Faces Charges

An 18-year-old Farmington Hills man with a medical marijuana card faces charges after police found him in possession of the drug early Sunday morning while in a vehicle with a 16-year-old girl from Redford. According to the Farmington Hills Police report, officers spotted the vehicle parked in a hotel lot in the area of Grand River and Halsted shortly before 1 a.m. While talking with the driver, a 17-year-old from Farmington Hills, police noticed the odor of marijuana, and a search of the driver and 18-year-old passenger turned up marijuana cigarettes. Vehicle Owners Report Thefts in Farmington Hills

Men from Newberry, MI and Windsor, ON report their vehicles stolen from Farmington Hills parking lots over the past week.

Visitors to Farmington Hills from Newberry, MI and Windsor, ONT called police over the past week to report their vehicles stolen. According to Farmington Hills Police reports, the Newberry man parked his gray, 2004 Dodge Intrepid in a lot at Botsford Hospital around 2:45 p.m. on Friday and returned a few hours later to find it missing. The Windsor owner of a green, 1996 Mercury Grand Marquis was visiting a friend in the 35000 block of Freedom Road over the weekend when his vehicle was taken from an apartment complex parking lot.  Both thefts remain under investigation; police did not discover any evidence of broken glass or debris at either scene, the report indicated. Farmington Hills Teens Try to Eat Marijuana During Traffic Stop, Police Say

Two Farmington Hills teens face drug-related charges, after at least one of them tried to eat marijuana that another was carrying during an April 19 traffic stop at Ontaga and Independence.  According to the Farmington Hills Police report, police stopped the vehicle at around 9:15 p.m., because the left brake light wasn't working. Police noticed a strong smell of fresh marijuana, but the driver and a passenger said there was none in the vehicle. While talking with a 17-year-old passenger, police noticed he had balls of marijuana inside his mouth, which the teen then spit onto the street.  The report indicated that when the 16-year-old passenger got out of the vehicle, a small bag of marijuana fell to the ground. Internet Date Steals Dog, Farmington Hills Woman Tells Police

A Farmington Hills woman told police Tuesday that she believes a man she met on an Internet dating site stole her dog.  According to a report filed with Farmington Hills Police, the 26-year-old woman met the 25-year-old man about two weeks ago, and they began "hanging out". She told police they were together at her house Monday night, and she fell asleep. The sound of a slamming door woke her at around 4:20 a.m. Tuesday, and she noticed both the dog and her Internet date were missing, the report indicated. The woman told police she did not know exactly where the man lives. Livonia and Farmington Hills police spoke with the man's father, who also did not know his son's exact address.

Farmington Hills Man Facing Additional Criminal Sexual Conduct Charges

The Detroit police officer now faces six counts.

A Farmington Hills resident and Detroit police officer facing four counts of criminal sexual conduct was charged with two more counts Friday, according to an article in the Observer & Eccentric. According to the article, the charges were added to Geoffrey Townsend in connection with a second female, age 15. The original charges were based on the reported sexual assault of a 14-15-year-old female. Townsend, 43, is founder of Reality Check Detroit. According to the non-profit's website, he has been a police officer since 2000 and created the 501(c)3 nonprofit to correct negative behavior in young people ages 6 to 14. The program includes a 12-week physical "re-instruction program" consisting of "military based, high impact exercises". …

Thieves Take Jewelry, Cash, Electronics in Farmington Hills Home Invasions

Thieves took electronics, jewelry and more than $5,000 in cash from two Farmington Hills homes on April 11.  According to Farmington Hills Police reports, a resident in the 31000 block of Carriage Hills Road called police at 5:24 p.m. that day, after finding $5,000 cash, $130 in coins and all of his wife's jewelry missing. The report indicated a sliding door that opened into the dining room was pried open to gain entry to the home.  Shortly before 4 p.m. on the same day, a resident in the 27000 block of East Echo Valley called police after finding someone had pried open her front door. According to the report, a flat screen television set, Seiko watch and digital camera were taken. Police found parts of a deadbolt lock laying on the floor…
