Marigold Kent Celebrates Early with 100th Birthday Party at Farmington Place

The soon-to-be centenarian's granddaughter says residents at the senior high-rise have have filled her grandmother's golden years with joy.

A week from Monday, Marigold Kent will officially be 100 years old. But friends and family – from as far away as California and Tennessee – decided to celebrate a little early.  On Friday, they surprised Kent with a birthday party in the community room at Farmington Place on Grand River in Farmington. She entered the room to a warm round of applause from the dozens of guests who came out to honor the much-loved mother, grandmother and friend.  Kent seemed overwhelmed by all the attention; Farmington Mayor Tom Buck delivered a proclamation, as did State Rep. Vicki Barnett (D-37th District). Barnett's was signed by her, State Sen. Vince Gregory and Gov. Rick Snyder. "Father Time is not always a hard parent," Barnett read, "and though he …

Santa Visits Seniors at Farmington Place

The Thursday afternoon party included gifts and food donated by local merchants.

More than 50 seniors who live at Farmington Place on Grand River in Farmington got a special visit from Santa during a holiday party Thursday afternoon.  Organizer Ginny Morris said local merchants, including Papa John's Pizza, Bellacino's, Salon Legato, Farmington Center Florist, Orchard Ten Food Center, Target, Kohl's and Busch's Fresh Food Market all donated food and gifts to make the afternoon special. The festivities started with Farmington city council member JoAnne McShane judging a holiday decorating contest, with one winner picked for each of the building's six floors.
