The department uses the site for training until the building's new owner tears it down.

Thanks to the building's new owner, Farmington Public Safety Department has been using the closed Dunleavy's Pub on Grand River for fire and police training.  According to a department press release, Bright Side Dental will tear down the existing building before construction begins on a new dental office. In the meantime, public safety officers have the opportunity to train in an unknown environment to search for a downed firefighter or trapped victim. In one of the training exercises, rescuers had to enter the building, find a self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA) with its alarm sounding, which represented a downed firefighter. Officers had to refill the SCBA from a spare bottle, and then remove the "firefighter" from the building. …

It's a real shame. I don't think you can build a village on drs offices and hair/nail salons alone. Couldn't they have used one of the many empty slots in the Downtown Farmington Center? I'm hoping Los Tres Amigos is very successful and more restaurants follow their lead. There also looks to be some construction inside of the old Green Olives across from the village mall, though I'm not sure what…   more ›

Crime Mapping Website Coming Soon to Farmington

Public safety officers currently use the site, which daily shows the location of reported crimes.

Information on a daily crime mapping website Farmington Public Safety officers use will soon be available to the general public. At a Thursday night Neighborhood Watch meeting, Commander Frank Demers said public access to crimemapping.com could be ready by the end of spring. "It gives you an opportunity every day to see what's going on in your area," he said. "We as a department are using this now for crunching our numbers, and it's fantastic." Crime reports are loaded each day, and the site produces a map with icons pinned to locations where crimes have occurred. Clicking on the pin produces a pop-up window that provides more details about each incident.  Canton, Dearborn, Livonia, Novi and Plymouth Township are among the 20 Michigan …

It's about time. Thieves have been steeling wheels (rims & tires) off 2012 and newer vehicles around Grand River from Drake/Gill/Halsted for almost a year now, and each time it happens everyone acts as though it is a "new occurrence". The police know it is happening, but their resources are spread to thin to be able to worry about what is perceived as "minor property crimes", and people are …   more ›
