While Michigan gas prices are dropping, analysts remain unsure how the East Coast storm will affect them.
AAA Michigan reports gas prices around the state have dropped from $3.507 last week to $3.490 this week. Gas prices at some stations in the Farmington area are even lower, with Valero at 31233 Grand River and Marathon at 32340 Grand River at $3.33 and $3.35, respectively. But will prices stay low in the wake of Hurricane Sandy? Industry analysts are watching the storm to see whether it will have an impact on local gas prices. While oil refineries on the East Coast have shut down — a move that could drive gas prices up — a report from Business Insider says with fewer drivers on the road, the storm could actually weaken demand for gas, thereby keeping prices low. “With Hurricane Sandy headed for East Coast, there are a number of …

Here's a list of things to remember about the mid-week holiday.
Tomorrow's federal holiday means changes to trash pickup, government building closures and more in Farmington and Farmington Hills. Here are some important things to keep in mind: While there are no local displays of fireworks, you don't have to travel far to find one. We've published a list of area events here. If you want to set off fireworks in your own backyard, a new state law allows you to shoot off airborne fireworks, like roman candles and bottle rockets. You can buy fireworks locally; temporary permits have been issued for businesses at 32905 Northwestern Hwy., 35000 Grand River and 39045 Polo Club #202. Fourth of July travelers are getting a break this year with gas prices taking a dip before the holiday. According to AAA, the …

That is, if you’re comparing it to recent times. Monday’s AAA fuel report showed the average price for a gallon of unleaded gasoline in Metro Detroit was $3.67, down a few cents from the week before. In Michigan, the average was $3.72. The national average of $3.65 for a gallon of unleaded gasoline is down 16 cents from one year ago and down 29 cents from this year’s peak, according to AAA. Despite these drops, though, this year’s average is the third-highest price on record for a Memorial Day weekend. The highest AAA recorded was early May last year, when we were …
