'Blame of Bones' Brings Knights, Swordplay to Masonic Hall in Farmington

Get a Clue Mystery Theater's new production opens Dec. 15 at the Masonic Hall on Farmington Road.

Swords and knights will clash next month, in Get a Clue Mystery Theater's new production, "Blame of Bones", which opens Dec. 15 at the Masonic Hall in Farmington.  Playing off the popular HBO series "Game of Thrones", the play is set in medieval times and opens as a local duchess invites knights of the realm to share all of the grand deeds they have done in her name.  "Of course, politics come to the fore, and a murder is committed," said writer Ken Lipka, who is co-director of the Theatrical Combat Network (TCN). The organization, which serves as a resource for stage combat and street fighting in movies and plays, is partnering with Farmington-based Get a Clue to produce the show.  As with all Get a Clue productions, the dinner show will …

Farmington-Area Mystery Dinner Theater Group Launches Fund Drive

Organizers say donations will be used to cover the cost of rehearsal space, props and costumes for their rollicking productions, which involve audience interaction.

Organizers of Get a Clue Mystery Dinner Theater, known for hilarious and interactive productions, are getting serious about the future of their company.  Get a Clue has set a goal of $5,000 for a fundraising drive on gofundme.com. Laurie Smallis of Farmington and Hans Mosher of Farmington Hills are also deep into the paperwork that goes with a 501(c)3 application.  "We always wanted to start as a non-profit," said Mosher, who grew up in Milford. Instead, the theater company got caught up in the passion of putting on shows, and "the business side was secondary."  Mosher and Smallis met years ago, in a Novi theater group. "Putting on shows has been a passion for both of us," Mosher said. "It's fun to start with a group of people and get them…

Positive Attitude Dance Academy Expands Curriculum at Farmington Studio

The dance studio offers new classes for all ages, as well as opportunities to get involved with theatre.

Dance and food have no apparent connection, except that an exhaustive dance class often leads to cravings for a super-sized meal. However, dance seems to be diversifying much the same way food and cooking did in the 1980s and 1990s, both in form and the age of participants. Positive Attitude Dance Academy in Farmington, which this year celebrates its 10th anniversary, is following that trend by expanding its offerings to include classes like Middle Eastern dance for adults, teens and kids. Other new classes that round out a traditional curriculum of ballet, pointe, tap, jazz and lyrical hip hop include hula-hoop and hip-hop jazz-fusion, for both teens and adults. “We’ve always had a good adult group here because we specifically offer adult…
