Michigan Golf Show Comes to Novi This Weekend

The golf show will be at Suburban Collection Showplace March 1-3.

A little bit of snow won't stop golfers from kicking off the Michigan golf season this weekend. The Michigan Golf Show will be held at Suburban Collection Showplace, 46100 Grand River Avenue in Novi, from Friday through Sunday. Hours are Friday 2-8 p.m., Saturday 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Sunday 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Cost is $10 for adults. Children 12 and younger get in free. Parking is $5. The show will have more than 400 exhibitors, which will include retail, resort and travel information, and deals on Michigan golf courses. Hands-on activities include a closest to the pin contest, 100 feet of hitting nets, and long drive contests. This year marks the 23rd anniversary of the largest consumer golf show in the nation. Warm Weather Means Farmington Area Golf Courses Are Open

Because spring weather is unpredictable, call before heading out with your clubs.

A reader told us Sunday's warm weather had golfers out in force at Farmington Hills Golf Club on Halsted. After calling around, we've learned local courses are all opening up to take advantage of the warm weather: Open since Sunday, Copper Creek's hours this spring are 9 a.m. until dark. When the weather improves and the season is up and running, the course will be open from 6 a.m. until dark. Learn more at coppercreekgolf.net or call 248-489-1777. While not officially open for the season until April 1, this city-owned course and driving range will open as the weather allows. After April 1, regular hours will be 7 a.m. until sunset. Junior Golfers Learning From On-Course Mentors in Farmington Hills

The Junior Golf League is teaching young golfers while they play with the help of local volunteers.

Participants in the Farmington Hills Junior Golf League are getting more than just playing experience on the course with the help of volunteer golfing mentors. The league has 68 junior golfers registered, ages 10-16, with 67 boys and one girl. The program will meet for seven sessions at Farmington Hills Golf Club over the remainder of the summer. Assisting with the program is a group of volunteer golf mentors that accompany the juniors around the course during the rounds. The mentors are local, senior men who play golf recreationally. The mentoring program is in its second year as a part of the league. North Farmington’s Max Kollin Wins Playoff To Take Home State Golf Title

ROCHESTER – What’s the first thing you do when you when a state title? Call Mom. North Farmington’s Max Kollin beat Davison’s Kyle Kenkel in a one-hole playoff on Saturday to win the Division 1 individual state title at Katke-Cousins. A teary-eyed Kollin walked off the green on No. 1 and his father Jimmy Kollin handed him the phone to tell her the good news: He'd won the first state golf championship in his school’s history. It was a great moment to cap a tremendous day of golf. Four players, including Kollin, finished their second round under par. The strong scores created a logjam at the top of the standings.
