The Governor Warner Mansion, a city-owned museum on Grand River in Farmington, begins its 31st year with an April 7 open house. Docents have been working at the Mansion all through the winter months preparing new displays. In the Sunday parlor, look for a display of “thousand eye” pressed glassware, and in the everyday parlor, check out a new Victorian clock on the mantel. Upstairs, a red and white quilt that dates back to 1914 is embroidered with names of Farmington residents in each square. A newly-donated quilt made by a heritage Farmington family will also be on display, along with other quilts from Farmington area quilters. Costumed docents will conduct tours of the house and period tunes will be played by pianist Annika Taylor on the…

A large crowd of excited children welcomed Santa to the Governor Warner Mansion Saturday.
After listening to children's wishes during Holly Days Saturday, Santa made a second visit in Farmington, at the Governor Warner Mansion. Santa helped the Farmington Area Jaycees light a 14-foot Christmas tree, donated by Trident Trees and on display in the Mansion's gazebo. Families ushered him into the gathering with a rousing chorus of "Santa Claus is Coming to Town," led by students from School of Rock in Farmington. With the lighted tree behind them, Santa helped Jaycee Kristin Garstka read "A Visit From St. Nicholas ('Twas the Night Before Christmas)". He then moved to the mansion porch to listen to children's Christmas wishes. During the evening, visitors lined up to take docent-led tours of the city-owned museum, which is …

Docents at the historic home in Farmington arrived Wednesday to find a "crime scene" on the porch. You're invited to use a little deductive reasoning to figure out what happened.
When docents at the Governor Warner Mansion arrived Wednesday to open the historic home of Michigan governor Fred M. Warner, they found a most disturbing sight. Browse through the photos above to see the "unfortunate couple", then use your powers of deduction to create a possible scenario for their demise. Did the couple attempt to steal the pot of mums? Was someone standing on the small stool tipped over next to them? And who put up all that crime scene tape? Share your "theory" in the comments below.

After council members enacted a ban on raising chickens earlier this year, the Planning Commission takes up the issue of raising horses.
Less than four months after Farmington city council members let stand a ban on raising chickens, planning commission members will consider an ordinance allowing residents to raise horses. At a 7 p.m. meeting today in council chambers, the commission will set a public hearing for the proposed ordinance. When officials discussed amending the city's animal ordinance in February, Patrick Thomas urged them to consider horses domesticated animals, rather than livestock. Have you seen the spooky spider web pictured in today's "mystery photo"? We'll be posting a story about an upcoming event later today that features the rest of the picture, but if you think you know where the web is, and why we're writing about it, tell us in the comments …
