Farmington Hills Flyers Fall To Livonia Churchill 4 - 3

After falling behind 2-0 in the first period, the Flyers battle back to make it a nail biter.

The Farmington Hills Flyers hockey team, made up of students from North Farmington and Harrison high schools, lost a close one at the Farmington Hills Ice Arena Saturday night.   Livonia Churchill came away with the win, beating the Flyers 4 to 3 on the Flyers home ice. Livonia opened the scoring in the first period on an even strength goal beating Flyer Goalie Hunter Myers (29) at 4:36. The goal was scored by Nick Missiak (18) with assists going to Brad Milkus (11) and Riley Brown (16). Although the Chargers seemed to have a bit more jump and often carried the play during the first period, the score remained 1-0 Livonia Churchill until 11:55 in the first.   Skating shorthanded due to a boarding penalty at 11:12, Brad Milkus (11) with a …

Try Hockey Free at Suburban Ice in Farmington Hills

Gear and instruction will be provided for kids of all ages.

Want to learn how to play hockey?  Suburban Ice in Farmington Hills invites kids of all ages who have never tried the sport to experience the game and learn the basics of the sport in a fun, safe environment during their Dec. 29 "Try Hockey Free" event.   Participants will be provided all the necessary equipment, and on-ice instructors will teach kids how to get dressed, stand on skates, hold a stick and skate around. Red Wings Alumni to Play Hockey for O'Rourke Charity

Tickets are still available for Dec. 21 charity game at Plymouth’s Compuware Arena.

Red and blue may not be Christmas colors, but the two will face off in the spirit of the season to raise funds for the family of fallen West Bloomfield Police Department Officer Patrick O'Rourke. The Detroit Red Wings Alumni Association and the Joe Kocur Foundation for Children will hit the ice at Compuware Arena in Plymouth Dec. 21 to play a charity hockey game, the proceeds of which will be donated to the O'Rourke Family Trust. O'Rourke, 39, was fatally shot Sept. 9 while responding with other officers to what police believed could have been a suicidal man. The incident sparked a barricaded gunman standoff that ended when police found the suspect, Ricky Coley, 50, dead of a self-inflicted gunshot wound. O'Rourke was the department's …

Farmington Hills resident Bob Young lives a long-time dream tonight, as his Delta Twins band plays a concert at the Heritage Park amphitheater. Here's what else you should know today: The mercury is expected to climb into the 90s today, so make sure you stay hydrated and cool. The National Weather Service predicts a low tonight in the upper 60s, with a 30 percent chance of rain.  The first time Bob Young saw the amphitheater in Heritage Park, he wanted to play there – and tonight, if the weather holds, he will. Video: 65-Year-Old Hockey Player Shares Story

Diane Pieknik, a resident of Fox Run retirement community in Novi, shows you're never too old to try something new.

Back in February, Novi Patch told you about Diane Pieknik, a 65-year-old woman who decided to turn her lifelong love for hockey into her newest hobby by joining an adult women's hockey league. Now Pieknik tells her own story in a video by Erickson Living. Pieknik said part of her was hesitant to try playing the sport at first, but the other part of her was sure she wanted to give it a shot. "I want try it, just to say I can do it," she said. Pieknik is from Farmington Hills but now lives at Fox Run retirement community in Novi. Pieknik, who is also big fan of the Detroit Red Wings, said her team was very excited for her when she scored her first goal. Farmington Unified Dominates Crosstown Rival Falcons

Hundreds show up to cheer as the Flyers take a 5-3 victory.

Hundreds of high school hockey fans watched Farmington Hills Unified (North Farmington-Harrison) top the Farmington High Falcons 5-3 Thursday in an exciting display of cross-town rivalry, at Farmington Hills Ice Arena. The game started with an even match-up between the two teams, who played to a 3-3 tie Nov. 23. The Falcons' Nick Kozoro was the first to score, with help from teammate Adam Lockner. The Flyers responded in the 2nd period with a goal by T.J. Zak. The Flyers took the lead with a goal from Jack Ladouceur, assisted by Ben Colenso, setting off a surge of excitement that led to another goal just 25 seconds later, with Ladouceur assisted by Stephen Coulter and Shane Moran.
