Tickets are still available for Dec. 21 charity game at Plymouth’s Compuware Arena.
Red and blue may not be Christmas colors, but the two will face off in the spirit of the season to raise funds for the family of fallen West Bloomfield Police Department Officer Patrick O'Rourke. The Detroit Red Wings Alumni Association and the Joe Kocur Foundation for Children will hit the ice at Compuware Arena in Plymouth Dec. 21 to play a charity hockey game, the proceeds of which will be donated to the O'Rourke Family Trust. O'Rourke, 39, was fatally shot Sept. 9 while responding with other officers to what police believed could have been a suicidal man. The incident sparked a barricaded gunman standoff that ended when police found the suspect, Ricky Coley, 50, dead of a self-inflicted gunshot wound. O'Rourke was the department's …

Tonight's free concert in Heritage Park features the Farmington-based band Delta Twins.
Farmington Hills resident Bob Young lives a long-time dream tonight, as his Delta Twins band plays a concert at the Heritage Park amphitheater. Here's what else you should know today: The mercury is expected to climb into the 90s today, so make sure you stay hydrated and cool. The National Weather Service predicts a low tonight in the upper 60s, with a 30 percent chance of rain. The first time Bob Young saw the amphitheater in Heritage Park, he wanted to play there – and tonight, if the weather holds, he will. Young performs with Delta Twins at 7 p.m. Bring a blanket or chair and enjoy this free concert by a locally based blues/rock band that was nominated earlier this year for a Detroit Music Award. Rain location for the concert is the …

Back in February, Novi Patch told you about Diane Pieknik, a 65-year-old woman who decided to turn her lifelong love for hockey into her newest hobby by joining an adult women's hockey league. Now Pieknik tells her own story in a video by Erickson Living. Pieknik said part of her was hesitant to try playing the sport at first, but the other part of her was sure she wanted to give it a shot. "I want try it, just to say I can do it," she said. Pieknik is from Farmington Hills but now lives at Fox Run retirement community in Novi. Pieknik, who is also big fan of the Detroit Red Wings, said her team was very excited for her when she scored her first goal. Now she sends her game summaries to her children and is proud to show others that you're …
