Meadowlark Home Invasion Shows Importance of Calling 911

Farmington Public Safety Commander Frank Demers talked with residents at a Neighborhood Watch meeting Thursday about break-ins, thefts from vehicles and other local crimes.

Farmington Public Safety investigators believe whoever broke into a home on Meadowlark Wednesday may have still been inside as the homeowner was calling police.   During a Neighborhood Watch meeting Thursday at Farmington City Hall, Commander Frank Demers said investigators found an air rifle had been taken out of a bedroom closet, but was left behind on the bed. That's an indication whoever committed the crime was interrupted, he said, and a reminder that residents should call police before entering a home when they believe a break-in may have occurred. "This homeowner did exactly what he was supposed to do," Demers said. "He drove up, saw something was wrong, and called 911." Investigators are also looking into a home invasion on Mission…

Second Home Invasion Reported in Farmington

Public Safety officers investigate a Wednesday break-in on Meadowlark.

Farmington Public Safety officers are investigating a home invasion that occurred Wednesday in the 32600 block of Meadowlark, in the area north of Eight Mile and east of Farmington Rd.  This is the second incident in the community over the past four days; on Monday, a homeowner on Mission Ct. reported a break-in.  Residents interested in learning more about public safety in Farmington are invited to attend a Neighborhood Watch meeting held 7 p.m. Thursday at Farmington City Hall.  In the latest incident, a resident who came home at around 5 p.m. noticed a side door ajar and immediately called police. Officers found the home had been ransacked, and cash had been taken. A K-9 team tracked a scent to Chesley St., which is south of Meadowlark…

Prosecutor Declines to Charge Second Suspect in Cora St. Burglary

Farmington Hills Police arrested one of two men identified as suspects in the Aug. 13 home invasion.

The Oakland County prosecutor's office has declined to charge a second suspect in an Aug. 13 home invasion on Cora St. in Farmington Hills.  Farmington Hills Police Cmdr. Matt Koehn said based on information submitted by police, who spoke with the unidentified man, "they do not feel there is enough evidence to charge him at this time." Terry Lamont Mays, 19, of Farmington Hills, faces charges of armed robbery and home invasion, and two counts of possessing a firearm while committing a felony, in connection with the crime.  According to a police report, a homeowner on Cora found Mays in her attached garage at around 2 p.m. Aug. 13. Farmington Hills Man Arraigned on Charges Tied to Monday Home Invasion

Terry Lamont Mays, 19, faces charges of armed robbery, home invasion and possession of a firearm in the commission of a felony.

A 19-year-old Farmington Hills man has been arraigned in connection with Monday's armed home invasion on Cora St. in Farmington Hills.  According to Farmington Hills Police (FHPD), Terry Lamont Mays was arraigned today by 47th District Court Judge James Brady on one count each of armed robbery and home invasion, and two counts of possessing a firearm while committing a felony.  Brady set a $100,000 cash or surety bond; Mays next appears in court on Aug. 22, for a preliminary examination conference. According to a police report, Monday's incident began when a homeowner on Cora answered a knock at her door. UPDATED: Farmington Hills Police Still Searching for Armed Robbery Suspect

Police have one man in custody in connection with a home invasion yesterday and believe a second suspect is no longer in the area.

UPDATE: Farmington Hills Police have a 19-year-old Farmington Hills man in custody and are still looking for another in connection with a home invasion on Cora St. yesterday afternoon. Cmdr. Matt Koehn said police believe they know the identity of the second man. "We do not believe he's in the area," Koehn added.  The police incident report indicates the man faces charges that include breaking and entering and resisting a police officer. The report also provides more detail about the incident, which began when the homeowner answered a knock at her door.
