Farm Rich Product Recall Affects Kroger Stores

Customers with Kroger Plus Cards who purchased the products will receive notifications by phone and on their register receipts.

If you have a Kroger Plus Card and purchased Farm Rich products subject to a recent recall due to possible E. Coli contamination, expect to hear from the retail chain.   On Friday, the U.S. Department of Agriculture Food and Safety Inspection Services (FSIS) announced Farm Rich products is voluntarily recalling 196,222 pounds of product. At this time, the recall only affects 22 oz. Farm Rich Mini Pizza Slices, with a “Best Buy” date of May 15 or May 16, 2014, in the Kroger Michigan Division. The product UPC code is 41322 35643. “All Kroger customers who purchased the recalled product using their Kroger Plus Card will receive a phone call and a message on the bottom of future receipts stating the recalled product was purchased,” said Dale …

Gleaners Teams Up with Kroger to Raise Funds, Collect Donations

Hope at the Table volunteers will gather monetary and food donations at Farmington Hills Kroger locations on Jan. 19.

This month, Gleaners Community Food Bank and Kroger are working together to bring hope to the tables of hungry southeast Michiganders. Each Saturday in January, volunteers will spend their day at local Kroger grocery stores across southeast Michigan, handing out information about the Bringing Hope to the Table initiative, as well as accepting donations of nonperishable food and money from shoppers. Volunteers will be out at these Farmington Hills Kroger stores on Saturday, Jan. 19, from 10 a.m.-6 p.m., in addition to other locations in Oakland County: Volunteers for Bringing Hope to the Table were in Wayne County on Jan. 5, and will be in Macomb County on Jan. 12 and Livingston and Monroe counties on Jan. 26. Volunteers are needed for …

Farmington Hills Retailers Sell Pink Pumpkins to Fund Breast Cancer Research

The Pink Pumpkin Patch Foundation, a nonprofit that funds breast cancer research, is working with retailers such as Kroger and Home Depot this month to raise money for breast cancer research through the sale of pink-skinned pumpkins.

This October, pink is the new orange – at least in pumpkins. The Pink Pumpkin Patch Foundation, a nonprofit organization that funds breast cancer research, is working with major retailers this month to raise money for breast cancer research through the sale of special pink-skinned pumpkins. Participating retailers include Kroger and Home Depot, which both have locations in Farmington Hills.  Grown from a specially cultivated seed, these pumpkins are actually pink in color, which lends them to be the center of the nonprofit's new national campaign, “Pink Pumpkins on Your Porch – Let’s Unite Against Breast Cancer." Farmington-area Kroger customers can help fight breast cancer on behalf of a special person during Kroger’s autumn breast cancer campaign, which has already begun and will go through the end of October. Customers may purchase a pink ribbon for $1 at any Kroger register and all proceeds will benefit the American Cancer Society. Customers also can help by making a coin box donation to benefit breast cancer awareness and research. Check Your Refrigerator Shelves for Recalled Kroger Spinach

The grocery store chain asks customers in 15 states to return the product, because of possible listeria contamination.

The Kroger Co. is asking all Michigan customers, and those in 14 other states, to check their refrigerators for certain Kroger Fresh Selections Tender Spinach 10-ounce packages, which are being recalled due to possible listeria monocytogenes contamination. Pregnant women or people with weakened immune systems could suffer severe illness after eating listeria monocytogenes. According to an alert issued by the Food and Drug Administration, the product is supplied by NewStar Fresh Foods LLC, has UPC code 0001111091649 and a "best if used by" date of Sept. 16. Any opened or unopened products should not be consumed and should be returned by customers to their local Kroger store for a full refund or replacement. To celebrate the company's two billionth disc being rented last weekend, Redbox is offering a free, one-night movie rental on Thursday. To get the freebie, the rental must be made at a kiosk using the promotional code THANKS2U. In Farmington Kroger locations at 25780 Middlebelt Rd. and37550 W 12 Mile Rd. both have Redbox kiosks; both are open daily 6 a.m. to midnight.  And for those wondering, the two billionth rental was the movie Drive and it was rented at a McDonald’s in Philomath, OR.

Kroger Recalls Aunt Jemima Frozen Pancakes

Kroger is recalling Aunt Jemima frozen pancakes for because they may contain soy. The supermarket chain is also making automated phone calls to inform customers about the recall.

Kroger stores are recalling certain Aunt Jemima Frozen Pancakes because they may contain soy protein. According to a release from Pinnacle Foods Group LLC, the parent company for Aunt Jemima, people who have an allergy or severe sensitivity to soy protein may run the risk of an allergic reaction if they consume this product. Pinnacle issued the voluntary recall after it discovered "there may have been a potential cross-contact with product that contained soy protein being produced on the same equipment" according to the release. The company has no reports of illness, and the Food and Drug Administration has been made aware of this recall. Moroccan Meat and Vegetable Pie

Phyllo dough makes this pie extra light and crispy, but sturdy enough to hold the delicious filling of spiced ground meat, mushrooms, spinach and Asian noodles. The best part is you don't have to travel to Morocco to eat it.

You might be familiar with the use of phyllo dough in the ever-so-popular Middle Eastern treat baklava, but did you know that it is just as scrumptious in savory dishes as well?  Many Middle Eastern, Balkan and North African dishes share the use of this thin pastry called phyllo (in the Middle East), bourek (in some Balkan countries) or warqa (in North Africa). Warqa, which literally means leaf, is thinner and easier to handle than phyllo dough but,  unfortunately, not widely available in the American market. Phyllo dough is easily found in the freezer department of any of your local grocery stores and yields a softer and more melt-in-your mouth result than the North African warqa. Redbox Kiosks Now Offer Video Game Rentals

Farmington Hills Kroger stores offer the media rental service.

Gamers can now rent video games locally at two Farmington Hills Kroger stores. Redbox, the stand-alone kiosks most known for their dollar-a-night movie rentals, now offer video games. Games cost $2 a day and can be reserved online for easy pickup at the nearest Redbox location. Kroger locations at 25780 Middlebelt Rd. and 37550 W 12 Mile Rd. both have Redbox kiosks; both are open daily 6 a.m. to midnight. Top new releases are available for rental, along with popular family and children’s games. A complete list of available titles is available online. Games are available for PlayStation 3, Nintendo Wii and Xbox 360. Redbox officials said the company began testing video game rentals at 5,000 locations across the country in August 2009. …

Kroger Warns Online Customers

The Ohio-based company announced today that its email database has been hacked.

Ohio-based Kroger, which has locations on 12 Mile Road and Middlebelt Road in Farmington Hills, announced today that its database of customer names and e-mail addresses has been hacked. Late Friday afternoon, customers who signed up on the company website received this e-mail: "Kroger wants you to know that the database with our customers' names and email addresses has been breached by someone outside of the company. This database contains the names and email addresses of customers who voluntarily provided their names and email addresses to Kroger. We want to assure you that the only information that was obtained was your name and email address. As a result, it is possible you may receive some spam email messages. We apologize for any …
