Falcon Cheer Team Places At Districts

The Farmington High School Competitive Cheer Team advances to state regional competition for the first time in school history.

I'm not sure who was louder, the cheer team or the parents and fans in the stands, when the judges announced a second place finish overall for the Farmington High School Competitive Cheer team at the MHSAA Division 2 District Cheer Competition held at Warren Woods High School Friday night. This was a special night. For the first time since Competitive Cheer became a varsity sport at Farmington High School, the team placed at district competition and is headed to the MHSAA Regional Finals that will be held at the Ortonville Brandon High School on Feb. 23. In round one (Required) scoring, teams are judged on floor mobility, jumps, team coordination, difficulty and variety as well as general impression. The Falcon squad came out of the gate …

For those of you interested: The Farmington High School Varsity Cheer Team finished 8th at MHSAA Regional Competition today. (February 23rd) and will not be advancing to the State Finals. All in all, the team had a great season marked by some exciting firsts and look forward to an even better season in 2013/2014.   more ›

2 Farmington Area Students Are MHSAA Scholar-Athlete Finalists

Of 120 finalists, 32 will be chosen to win a $1,000 scholarship.

The Michigan High School Athletic Association (MHSAA) announced finalists for the 2012-2013 Scholar-Athlete Award today, and two Farmington Public Schools students are on the list, more than any other school in the state. Morgan Alexandria Gilliam, North Farmington High School, and Sarah Gutknecht, Farmington High School, are finalists this year. Of the 120 finalists announced today, 32 will be chosen to receive the $1,000 scholarships. Award winners are chosen based on a combination of athletic and academic excellence. To be eligible for the award, students must have a cumulative grade point average of 3.50 (on a 4.0 scale), and previously have won a varsity letter in at least one sport in which the MHSAA sponsors a postseason tournament…

There's no doubt that Farmington, North Farmington and Harrison high school students know how to support their sports teams. But, which school has the best fan section around?  The Michigan High School Athletic Association is hosting its second annual Battle of the Fans and is ready to highlight the best student cheering sections across Michigan. To enter, follow these rules: The MHSAA Student Advisory Council will choose five finalists. MHSAA officials will visit each school on a Friday game night to see the fan section in person. The winner will be announced on Feb. 22 and will be invited to the Class B Boys Basketball Semifinals at the Breslin Center on March 22 to be recognized and receive a championship banner. North Farmington's Miller Loses in Wrestling Semifiinals

Detroit Catholic Central's Beazley edges Miller to earn spot in state final bout, while Kevin Miller heads to the consolation round.

AUBURN HILLS – North Farmington's Kevin Miller will have to settle for the consolation round after losing his semifinal bout Friday at The Palace of Auburn Hills. Miller dropped a 15-7 decision to Detroit Catholic Central senior Kevin Beazley, who will go on to wrestle in the 189 pound class for the state title at the Michigan High School Athletic Association (MHSAA) individual tournament. Earlier Friday, one takedown was enough to send Miller to the semifinals.  "I felt like all I needed was one point to win the match," Miller said.  He scored a takedown in the second round against Grand Haven senior Dakota Smith (189 lbs.) and spent the rest of the bout keeping Smith facedown on the mat. North Farmington's Miller Wins First Round of State Wrestling Tourney

Miller tops Salem's Jacob McCabe to earn spot in quarterfinals Friday afternoon. Harrison's Andrew Fialka loses, and will be in consolation round.

North Farmington's Kevin Miller started off the state wrestling tournament with a win in a 7-4 decision Thursday over Salem's Jacob McCabe in the 189 weight class. Miller executed his game plan to perfection in the first round at The Palace of Auburn Hills. "I did what I expected to do," Miller said. "I wanted to get as many leg shots as I could and avoid the throw." The North Farmington wrestler scored three takedowns, all going after McCabe's leg. And McCabe wasn't able to get a single takedown in the match. Miller will wrestle Dakota Smith from Grand Haven Friday in the quarterfinals. Smith beat David Skochelak from Utica Ford on a 7-4 decision. Farmington Hills Harrison wrestler Andrew Fialka fell on a 9-6 decision to Battle Creek …

Headed to Ford Field? What You Should Know

Traffic, parking and details you'll need if you are headed to Ford Field for the state high school football finals Friday or Saturday.

Traffic: The interactive map above indicates the traffic around Ford Field. Any green highlighted roads are moving freely; yellow are moving slowly; red are at a standstill. Directions: Ford Field is located at 2000 Brush St., just south of Interstate 75 (Fisher Freeway) and across Brush Street from Comerica Park. Suggested routes are listed on the Ford Field website. Parking: The attached parking map (PDF) indicates lots around Ford Field and routes to get there. There are several parking garages in the area that are within a short distance of the stadium. Catholic Central Edges Canton for District Title

Chiefs fall to Shamrocks, 21-14.

Canton visited Catholic Central today in state football playoff action. We were both in the press box and on the field getting you instant updates and analysis. Catholic Central fought to a 21-14 win to claim the district title and advance in the Division 1 state playoffs, while Canton's season ends at 8-3. We'll have video highlights to come.
