Farmington High Band Marches to 5th Place Finish in State Competition

Director Mike Steele says this is the band's highest-ever finish in the Michigan Competing Bands Association finals.

Playing music from Cirque du Soleil's "Ka", the Farmington High School marching band earned its best-ever finish in the Nov. 3 Michigan Competing Band Association (MCBA) state finals, held at Ford Field in Detroit.  Director Michael Steele said the band, which earned 5th place honors, has qualified in each of the past four years. He explained that the band posted the sixth highest score in its flight through preliminary competition.  "Our group is competing very well with bands that are twice our size," Steele said. The program music "had a kind of worldly flavor to it ... very groovy, so it was a lot of fun to work with," he added. Harrison Takes Fourth in State Marching Band Competition

The Hawks performed at Ford Field Saturday afternoon for the 2011 MCBA Flight II Championship.

Harrison High took fourth place in Flight II of the 2011 Michigan Competing Band Association (MCBA) Championships, which brought 48 bands from across Michigan to Ford Field in Detroit on Saturday. Bands were divided into four flights, with each flight containing 12 performances. An awards ceremony took place after each flight and each band received either a plaque or a trophy, depending on their place. Trophies were also given for best music, best effect and best marching. Thousands of family members and fans streamed into Ford Field throughout the day to cheer on their school and watch some of the best marching in Michigan.
