Canine College, a Farmington Hills-based pet care facility, has created a program to benefit homeless pets placed at the Westland Berman Center of the Michigan Humane Society (MHS). The Giving Tree, now in place in the Canine College lobby, is adorned with paper ornaments that feature pictures of animals that need a little love this holiday season. On the back of each ornament is a "wish list". Visitors can choose an ornament, fill the animal's wish list and place the items in a holiday stocking. Staple the animal's picture to the stocking and bring it back to Canine College by Dec. 20 to place under the tree. The Michigan Humane Society is partnering with Canine College to offer a microchip clinic on Saturday, Sept. 8, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the dog training and day care facility in Farmington Hills. A microchip is a safe and permanent form of pet identification that will be recognized by nearly every veterinarian, humane organization and municipal animal control. It substantially increases your chances of being reunited if your beloved pet is lost. Canine College in Farmington Hills hosts an open house today, 4 p.m.- 7 p.m., to kick off registration for this year's Michigan Humane Society (MHS) Mega March, held Oct. 7, 2012 at Hart Plaza in Detroit and at Kensington Metropark. Canine College has joined MHS as a corporate partner, with the goal to make significant differences in helping the animals in their care, said owner Deb Watkins. The MHS cares for over 100,000 animals each year through life-saving programs and services and is one of the largest animal welfare organizations in the country.
