Harrison High Wins Hip Hop & High Kick Championship

The competition was presented by Farmington Hills based Mid American Pompon.

The Harrison High School Varsity Pompon team earned first place in their division at the 22nd Annual Hip Hop & High Kick Championship on Nov. 4 at Saginaw Valley State University. The competition was presented by Farmington Hills-based Mid American Pompon. The Varsity Pompon Team placed first in the Small Varsity High Kick category. Middle school, high school and collegiate pompon and dance teams from across Michigan competed in various categories throughout the day. These included Collegiate Hip Hop; Varsity and Junior Varsity Hip Hop; Middle School and Junior Varsity High Kick; Small, Medium and Large Varsity High Kick and Collegiate High Kick. Mid American All Stars Headed for Summer Olympics

The Farmington Hills-based studio draws young women from around the state to perform in London this July.

Mid American Pompon All Stars director Julie Hobbs-Julian knows she has her work cut out for her.  The Northville resident is working with dozens of young women in 9th-12 grades from all over the state, to prepare for performances at the 2012 Summer Olympics in London. The group will leave July 7 to be part of productions arranged by KI Dance, a national company with which the Farmington Hills-based organization first worked during the Summer Olympics held in Atlanta, GA.  "We have four rehearsals before we go, and that's it, which is difficult," Hobbs-Julian said after working with the girls at St. John Lutheran Church in Farmington Hills. Mid American Pompon All Stars Celebrates 25 Years in Thanksgiving Day Parade

The Farmington Hills-based squad opens national coverage of the Thursday parade.

The Mid American Pompon All Star team will perform in America’s Thanksgiving Day Parade for its 25th consecutive year. Created in 1986 with only 40 members, the prestigious All Star team has grown to more than 200 performers from high schools throughout Michigan. Each year, they perform at several events around the country. During the parade, the team will open national coverage with an original pompon routine performed to a new Detroit-themed song. The team will also present an additional routine while on the route. The All Star Team performers are known for their creative choreography, which involves sharp, precise and unified moves, showmanship and spectacular kicklines.
