Farmington Area Students Named National Merit Semifinalists

Farmington, Harrison, Mercy and North Farmington high schools all have students in the running for the scholarship program.

Eleven Farmington-area students are among the 16,000 semifinalists in the 58th annual National Merit Scholarship Program.  The seniors have the opportunity to compete for 8,300 National Merit Scholarships worth $32 million, which will be awarded next spring. Students must fulfill several requirements in order to advance to the Finalist level, and about 90 percent of Semifinalists are expected to attain that standing. More than half of those students will receive scholarships.  High school juniors qualify for the program by taking the 2011 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test. Farmington Area Students Earn National Merit Honors

The students are semi-finalists in the 2012 National Merit Scholarship Competition.

Eight students in Farmington and Farmington Hills high schools have been named semifinalists in the 2012 National Merit Scholarship Competition. They are: FARMINGTON HARRISON MERCY NORTH FARMINGTON Each year in September, about one-third of the 50,000 National Merit high scorers are notified that they have qualified as semifinalists. They are the highest scoring entrants in each state. In February, about 15,000 Finalists will be announced. To become a Finalist, a Semifinalist must have an outstanding academic record throughout high school, be endorsed and recommended by the high school principal, and earn SAT scores that confirm the student's earlier performance on the qualifying test.
