Big Week for Farmington Area Sports Teams

The Farmington High hockey team's winning streak comes to an end, while Harrison's girls basketball team lands the second spot in division standings.

The Farmington High hockey team's winning streak came to an end this week, but the news was not all bad for area sports teams. Here's what happened: Farmington hockey The Falcons winning streak came to a grinding halt Wednesday, with a 3-1 loss to Rochester Stoney Creek. The Falcons gave up two goals in the first period and tried to fight back with one in the second frame, when defenseman Austin Meltzer slapped the puck home from the blue line with assists from Nick Kozoro and Roman Firestone on a power play. The score stayed that way until late in the third period, when Stoney Creek scored on the empty net. The Falcons maintain their first place status in the OAA Red division with a 1-1-4 record, and 6 points. The Falcons are finally back…

Game On! Sports Unifies People in Farmington, Hills

The love of sports supersedes race, ethnic and economic divisions.

You can see them all around the shopping malls up on Orchard Lake Road. They’re common sights not just in the dollar stores but also the more tony shops that dot the area. Of course they’re more than familiar in the bars and restaurants where TVs line the walls. In schools? For sure. Churches, synagogues and mosques? Yeah, even there, although not without a few raised eyebrows. Maybe your kids wear one as a nightshirt. This month it seems that the “Old English D” of the Detroit Tigers, and the roaring blue Detroit Lions logos are everywhere. To me, that’s a good thing, even for people who couldn’t distinguish an old D from a new one, or who take three or more tries to correctly pronounce Ndamukong Suh’s name. Here’s why.
