A gluten-free menu that includes Salmon Tuscana and Roasted Corn & Black Bean Guacamole has earned Peterlin's Restaurant & Bar in Farmington the distinction of best Detroit gluten-free bar or pub, in an award given by gfreek.com. The North Carolina-based website also honored Buddy's Pizza, based in Farmington Hills, as best gluten-free local restaurant. According to the awards website, founders Josh and Jayme Schieffer created the awards to provide an unbiased source of information about the quality and taste of gluten-free products. The Greater Farmington Area Chamber of Commerce welcomed another new business Thursday, with a ribbon cutting at Peterlin's Restaurant & Bar in Farmington. Owned by chef Zach Peterlin and Kim DeCapite, Peterlin's opened its doors about two weeks ago in the Farmington Crossroads shopping center, Nine Mile and Farmington Roads.

Expected high ozone levels leads to an air quality alert for southeast Michigan, including Farmington and Farmington Hills.
Today is an Air Action Day, which means air quality may be unhealthy for some people. Here's what else you should know: Today's high is expected to climb above 80, with ozone levels triggering an Air Action Day. Walk, bike, carpool or use mass transit if possible, and avoid filling up your vehicle's gas tank. Active children and adults, especially those with asthma, should limit outdoor exposure. The air should get better as the temperature drops to around 65 tonight, according to the National Weather Service. Chef Zach says his menu includes unique twists on old favorites and comfort food, as well as gluten-free selections.
After 12 years working as a chef in other restaurants, Zach Peterlin strikes out on his own this week, with the opening of Peterlin's Restaurant on Farmington Road, just south of Nine Mile. Peterlin learned the business from the ground up, starting as a dishwasher at age 15. A graduate of Northern Michigan University, he continued working in restaurants through school and moved to the Detroit area after graduation, to take a job with an upscale restaurant.
