Concerns over heavy traffic on Tax Day prompts a call to Farmington Hills Police.
A medium-sized brown tote bag left in the boulevard near the U.S. Post Office on 12 Mile Road in Farmington Hills prompted a call to Farmington Hills policeMonday. According to the report, postal authorities were concerned because heavy traffic was expected at the facility on the April 15 deadline to file income tax returns. When police opened the bag, they found towing straps, jumper cables, miscellaneous tools and a survival kit. The bag is being held at the Farmington Hills Police Dept. On Tuesday, the Jewish Community Center at Maple and Drake in West Bloomfield was evacuated, after two suspicious packages were spotted in the bushes near …

Government offices are closed, but the Farmington Community Library branches remain open on Monday.
Monday's celebration of Presidents Day, formerly known as Washigton's Birthday, means some – but not all – government offices will be closed. United States Post Office branches in Farmington and Farmington Hills will be closed. Both have Automated Postal Centers, which allow customers to weigh and purchase postage for letters and packages by using a credit or debit card. But while city offices in Farmington Hills and the 47th District Court will close, Farmington City Hall will remain open. Collection of trash and recyclables will go on as usual on Monday; the holiday does not change the week's schedule in Farmington or Farmington Hills. Both the Main Library and the Farmington branch of the Farmington Community Library will be open …

Here's a list of things to remember about the mid-week holiday.
Tomorrow's federal holiday means changes to trash pickup, government building closures and more in Farmington and Farmington Hills. Here are some important things to keep in mind: While there are no local displays of fireworks, you don't have to travel far to find one. We've published a list of area events here. If you want to set off fireworks in your own backyard, a new state law allows you to shoot off airborne fireworks, like roman candles and bottle rockets. You can buy fireworks locally; temporary permits have been issued for businesses at 32905 Northwestern Hwy., 35000 Grand River and 39045 Polo Club #202. Fourth of July travelers are getting a break this year with gas prices taking a dip before the holiday. According to AAA, the …
