DTE reports roughly 92,000 customers woke up without power and repairs are under way.
High winds whipped through Oakland County and majority of southeast Michigan overnight, causing some widespread power outages. More than 500 residents are without power between Franklin Road and Middlebelt in Farmington Hills, and outages are also apparent in smaller pockets south of I-696 in Farmington Hills. DTE reports nearly 92,000 customers awoke without power Sunday morning, the majority clustered in southern Oakland County and around Ann Arbor, according to the DTE Outage map. The winds peaked between 50-60 mph at around 3 a.m. and prompted the National Weather Service to issue a wind advisory until 8 a.m. The winds have since subsided. Now is the time of year for cold temperatures and winter storms. It’s also the time of year when gusting winds and ice and snow can bring power outages. Here are a few tips on how to prepare: Make sure you have a battery-powered or hand crank radio to listen for emergency updates and news reports. The Farmington Hills emergency radio station operates at 1650 AM. If using a portable generator during a power outage, it should always be operated outside, away from doors and windows to avoid dangerous carbon monoxide. Also be sure the generator is operated downwind from any homes. Every home should have a working carbon monoxide detector in each bedroom. Keep flashlights or electric lanterns on hand to provide light; candles may add some …

High winds blowing through the area took out power for thousands of DTE customers Monday night.
Students at Beechview Elementary School have an unexpected day off Tuesday, thanks to the effects of Superstorm Sandy. High winds knocked out power for thousands of DTE customers in Farmington and Farmington Hills Monday night, including 148 in and around the school's neighborhood on Westmeath Ct. More than 600 customers in Farmington Hills remain without power Monday.

Power has been out since early this morning for residents in a wide swath from 8 Mile to 11 Mile. The outage also affects two Farmington schools, which are operating on partial power.
UDPATE: Farmington Glen Aquatic Club announced on its Facebook page this morning that storm damage has closed its swimming pool. According to the post: "We have multiple power lines down, too many tree limbs in and around the pool. At this point, we are waiting for DTE to remove and fix the downed power lines and restore power. Once the power is restored, the grounds and pool will be cleared of the tree branches, and the pool will need to be shocked." About 2,000 Farmington area residents remain without power this morning, after overnight storms that took out power lines and damaged trees.
