Find Local Road Construction Projects on New Map

State map shows dates and locations of major MDOT road and bridge projects.

Planning your summer roadtrips, or just want to know when you should take a different route to work? A state highway construction map for 2013 is now available from the Michigan Department of Transportation that shows drivers where and when road and bridge projects are occurring across the state. The free annual map - called "Paving the Way" - is available at all MDOT Transportation Service Centers, regional offices, Welcome Centers and most state rest areas. "MDOT publishes this map to prepare Michigan motorists for the construction season ahead," State Transportation Director Kirk T. Steudle said in a press release. "It's a good time to also remind everyone to slow down and pay attention when driving through work zones on major state …

Where to Look for County Road Construction in Farmington Hills

Projects will repair the road base and add asphalt to lanes on 14 Mile and Haggerty Roads.

The Road Commission for Oakland County (RCOC) this week announced almost $30 million in 2013 road projects that include two in Farmington Hills.  According to a press release, plans call for repair, rehabilitation and resurfacing on 14 Mile, from Haggerty to Country Way at the Farmington Hills/Commerce Township border, and on Haggerty, from Nine Mile to north of Village Woods Drive at the Novi/Farmington Hills border. In those areas, the road base will be repaired, and 3-4 inches of new asphalt will be added to existing lanes.  Total cost for the two projects is around $1.35 million. The release indicated that construction season starts as soon as weather permits and typically runs until mid-November. “We have an aggressive road-…

Relief in Sight on 14 Mile, Orchard Lake Road Construction Projects

According to an update from the City of Farmington Hills, both major projects are 'substantially complete'.

A couple of major Farmington Hills road construction projects are wrapping up, but road closures and detours remain on others, according to a construction update released Monday by the city:  Eight Mile Road, Telegraph in Southfield to Grand River (Michigan Dept. of Transportation - MDOT) Traffic is expected to shift soon to the inside lanes, in order to complete work on the outside lanes. The closure of Eight Mile at Grand River will remain in place until further notice, and motorists are being diverted to Grand River where they can use the first median turnaround to return to Eight Mile. Much of this project is scheduled for night and weekend work. Orchard Lake Road, 13 Mile to 14 Mile, Resurfacing (Road Commission for Oakland County - …

5 Things You Should Know Today - May 24, 2012

Expected high ozone levels leads to an air quality alert for southeast Michigan, including Farmington and Farmington Hills.

Today is an Air Action Day, which means air quality may be unhealthy for some people. Here's what else you should know: Today's high is expected to climb above 80, with ozone levels triggering an Air Action Day. Walk, bike, carpool or use mass transit if possible, and avoid filling up your vehicle's gas tank. Active children and adults, especially those with asthma, should limit outdoor exposure. You Asked: Farmington Hills Crews At Work on Farmington, Halsted Roads

The city's asphalt resurfacing program has roads under construction for the next three weeks.

Farmington-Farmington Hills Patch reader Kevin McCarthy sent in a question about what looked to him like the beginning of road construction on Farmington Road this morning. So we called City of Farmington Hills Dept. of Public Works Superintendent Kevin McCarthy (how's that for a coincidence?) and learned the area is part of the city's asphalt resurfacing program – and Farmington Road is not the only area affected. "In fact, that's going on right outside my window," said McCarthy, who works out of the city's Division of Public Works building on Halsted.  McCarthy said crews will be working on Halsted between I-696 and 12 Mile, as well as the stretch on Farmington Road, for about three weeks. As they mill off pavement and re-pave the roads…

Downtown Farmington Construction Project Should Wrap Up Next Wednesday

Paving will include Thomas Street and two parking lots.

A project to replace a water main and repave an area in downtown Farmington is nearing completion. Farmington Dept. of Public Works Director Kevin Gushman said workers on Friday were putting in a stone base on Thomas Street after replacing aging water pipes. On Wednesday, they're scheduled to start paving the street and adjacent parking lot, as well as the parking lot next to the Masonic Hall at Farmington Rd. and Grand River. "They're not planning on working over the weekend," Gushman said. The project is behind schedule; it started on July 27 and was expected to take 3 to 4 weeks. "The contractor just did not go as quickly as he thought he would," Gushman said. "He probably did not dedicate as much manpower as he could have." Another …

Construction Closes 14 Mile Road for the Summer

Access to some side streets from 14 Mile will also be closed.

A rehabilitation project scheduled to begin Monday will close 14 Mile Road from Northwestern to Middlebelt until late summer. Local access will be maintained to Warner Upper Elementary School, local businesses and residences. Local streets closed at 14 Mile during construction include Heather Heath Lane, Coach Lane, Briarcliff Knoll, Franklin Ridge and Briarcrest Knoll. All have alternate access points. While 14 Mile Road is scheduled to be open to traffic before the start of the new school year, cleanup and restoration will continue well into the fall.
