Trader Joe's Closes in Farmington Hills This Month

The store moves to Bloomfield Township, where an opening is slated Jan. 15.

The end is near for the Farmington Hills Trader Joe's, and the countdown for the opening of the store's new Bloomfield Township location is under way. The doors to the fully-refurbished store inside part of the former Kroger location in Bloomfield Plaza open Tuesday, Jan. 15 at 8 a.m. A spokesperson with the California-based company promised no major gimmicks or frills with the grand opening. But customers will have access to all the products and sales values they've experienced at the Farmington Hills location, which will close this month, officials said in a written statement. Trader Joe's Taking Shape in Bloomfield

The exterior sign is up and the interior is coming together at the market's new locale at Telegraph and Maple.

  In September, we wrote about how Trader Joe's move from Farmington Hills to Bloomfied Township understandably put off some current patrons. Conversely, Bloomfield-area residents and business owners are more enthused, particularly since the construction work is starting to show visible results. Carpenters and electrical contractors are hard at work at the new location on the west side of Telegraph between the Starbucks and SavOn Drugs in Bloomfield Plaza. Raw and Roasted Peanuts Added to Expanded Peanut Butter Recall

More than 70 varieties of peanuts are added to a massive Sunland Inc. recall for possible salmonella contamination. Here's the latest.

A food recall that began with a contaminated batch of peanut butter sold at Trader Joe's has now expanded to include raw and roasted in-shell and shelled peanuts, Sunland Inc. announced Friday in a news release posted on the Food and Drug Administration website. The nuts were processed in the Sunland Peanut Processing Plant in Portales, N.M. The same plant processed the two Trader Joe's Valencia Peanut Butter varieties linked to an outbreak of salmonella bradeney, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. The potential salmonella contamination could cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, the elderly or others with compromised immune systems. Trader Joe's Plans Move to Bloomfield

Although the company's corporate office could not confirm the move, customers are being told that the store will relocate to Maple and Telegraph in Bloomfield Township.

Trader Joe's customers in Farmington Hills have been told they'll soon have to travel a little farther for their favorite grocery items.  While the company's corporate headquarters could not confirm the move, customers are being told the store is relocating to Maple and Telegraph in Bloomfield Township, sometime in December.  Trader Joe's is located in a shopping center at the 14 Mile/Orchard Lake/Northwestern triangle; the store is near two major shopping centers, Hunters Square on the Farmington Hills side of 14 Mile and Gateway Center on the West Bloomfield Township side. Peanut Butter Is Recalled by Trader Joe’s Over Salmonella Concerns

If you have it, bring it back and the Farmington Hills store will give you a full refund.

Trader Joe’s corporate officials say they are acting “out of an abundance of caution” and ordering the recall of one type of its house brand peanut butter over salmonella concerns. “Trader Joe’s Creamy Salted Valencia Peanut Butter” should not be eaten, the Monrovia-based specialty grocery chain said. “We have no confirmed information that suggests this peanut butter is unsafe to eat,” the company stated. But the food should not be eaten “pending health-related inquiries.” Trader Joe’s has one store in Farmington Hills, at 14 Mile and Northwestern.
