Santa Helps Farmington Area Jaycees Light 14-Foot Christmas Tree

A large crowd of excited children welcomed Santa to the Governor Warner Mansion Saturday.

After listening to children's wishes during Holly Days Saturday, Santa made a second visit in Farmington, at the Governor Warner Mansion. Santa helped the Farmington Area Jaycees light a 14-foot Christmas tree, donated by Trident Trees and on display in the Mansion's gazebo. Families ushered him into the gathering with a rousing chorus of "Santa Claus is Coming to Town," led by students from School of Rock in Farmington.  With the lighted tree behind them, Santa helped Jaycee Kristin Garstka read "A Visit From St. Nicholas ('Twas the Night Before Christmas)". Governor Warner Mansion Open for Tree Lighting, Tours in December

Enjoy Victorian holiday decorations, music and more at the historic home on Grand River in Farmington.

On Saturday, Dec. 1, start the holiday season right with the 27th annual Christmas tree lighting ceremony and open house at the Governor Warner Mansion. Join the Farmington Area Jaycees and Mansion volunteers for this old-fashioned holiday evening of family fun from 5 p.m.-7 p.m. The Mansion opens at 5 p.m. for tours, and Santa Claus arrives at 5:30 p.m. to light the 14-foot Gazebo Christmas tree that begins the outdoor festivities. After singing carols by candlelight and reading a classic Christmas tale, warm up around the nearby fire pit, head over to the heated Carriage House for cookies and hot chocolate, or get pictures taken with Santa on the porch. Tree Lightings, Downtown Rochester Aglow, and Other Holiday Events Nearby

Looking for some holiday cheer within an hour's drive? We've got lights, Santas, parades and more happing in the greater Detroit area.

Other than shop and eat, there's more to do this holiday around town. Of course, on Thanksgiving, there's the Turkey Trot and America's Thanksgiving Parade downtown Detroit. Here's a roundup of other events in and around Oakland County Thanksgiving week. Holiday Tree Lighting: 6 p.m. Nov. 21 at Shain Park. Santa Arrives! And Other Holiday Fun in Oakland County This Weekend (Nov. 17-18)

Looking for some holiday cheer in the area? Santa is busy this weekend with a parade in Royal Oak, listening to wishes in Troy, and arriving in Rochester Hills.

Santa has a busy agenda this weekend. He's going to be traveling around Oakland County for a parade, a welcome and other fun events. Santa Scamper in downtown Royal Oak: The half-mile run along Washington Avenue on Nov. 18 is open to all walkers, joggers, and runners. The noncompetitive event takes place at 1:30 p.m.,  just ahead of Royal Oak's Holiday Magic Parade. Registration includes a race number, Santa hat, McDonald’s coupon and hot chocolate after the run to enjoy while watching the parade. Downtown Farmington Celebrates Holly Days Dec. 1

Santa and Mrs. Claus, free movies and a tree lighting ceremony are all part of the Dec. 1 event.

A Greens and Gifts Market, holiday crafts and stories and a visit from Santa are all part of the Holly Days celebration, held Dec. 1 in and around downtown Farmington.  Kids of all ages will enjoy a visit with Santa from noon to 4 p.m. at the Walter E. Sundquist Pavilion. Focal Point Studio of Photography will offer free photos with Santa. Students from Oakland Community College Culinary Studies Institute will offer an ice carving demonstration at noon, and families can leave new pairs of socks and mittens on the Tree of Wishes, for donation to a local charity.  The Mike Greer Photography Studio at 33316 Grand River becomes Santa’s Workshop from 10 a.m.-4 p.m., with a Kids Holiday Craft Area, free gift wrapping, refreshments and story time…
