Walk with a Doc Returns to Heritage Park in Farmington Hills

The first topic for the 2013 series of free community walks is appropriate for spring.

Botsford Hospital welcomes spring with its first Walk with a Doc of the season on March 21. At this free community walk, Dr. Annie A. Arrey-Mensah, a board-certified allergist-immunologist, will tell you everything you want to know about asthma and allergies. She will also field questions.    Walk with a Doc events are held at noon on the third Thursday of each month, through November, in Heritage Park, located on the west side of Farmington Road, between 10 and 11 Mile Roads. The walks start at the City of Farmington Hills Nature Center and are held rain or shine. Healthy snacks are provided. Register by calling 877-477-Doc1 (3621) and selecting option 1. 5 Things You Should Know Today - April 18, 2012

A special 3-minute test of all severe weather sirens in the Farmington area will be conducted at 1 p.m. today.

The skies over Farmington and Farmington Hills will be clear today, but you'll hear emergency sirens. Here's the reason, along with a few other things you should know: The National Weather Service predicts a sunny day, with patchy frost before 8 a.m. and a high around 64. Tonight, the clouds roll in and the mercury dips to 49.  It's Severe Weather Awareness week in Oakland County, so listen for a special test of severe weather sirens at 1 p.m. Wednesday. 'Walk with a Doc' Event April 19 Features Botsford Dietitian

Join Annie House for a walk in Farmington Hills' Heritage Park.

Botsford Hospital’s next Walk with a Doc, a free wellness event that takes off from the Nature Discovery Center in Heritage Park at noon on April 19, will feature the topic of nutrition for healthy living and weight loss. Guest speaker Annie House, registered dietitian and certified diabetes educator at Botsford Hospital, will be leading the discussion and will provide helpful nutrition tips, such as how to read nutrition labels, choosing high nutrition foods, how to eat healthy at restaurants and how small food changes can yield big results.     For more information about future walks or to register for the April 19 walk, call 877-477-Doc1 (3621) and select option 1.

Walkers Get Exercise, Health Advice at Heritage Park

The Walk with a Doc series launches Wednesday in Farmington Hills.

A partnership between Botsford Hospital and the City of Farmington Hills Nature Discovery Center launched Thursday, allowing more than a dozen women to A Walk with a Doc on trails at Heritage Park. Carolyn Nelson, D.O., and Kathleen Hannon, D.O., of Farmington Village Family Practice met with participants inside the Nature Center at 11 a.m. and talked about general health issues. Nelson stressed the importance of healthy eating, stressing portion size and eating the right foods.  "It pretty much comes down to you own your own health," she said. "Nutrition's important, and just as important is exercise." The National Institutes of Health recommends exercising an hour a day to be healthy, she added. A Walk with a Doc is a national program …
