UPDATED: What's Open, Closed on Thanksgiving Day?

Government offices and banks will close, but not all retailers.

Because Thanksgiving Day is a national holiday, first declared in 1863 by President Abraham Lincoln, all government offices will be closed, as will banks and most businesses, on Nov. 22. Farmington and Farmington Hills city halls will be closed, as will the 47th District Court building. Farmington Hills city hall and the court building will also be closed on Nov. 23.  There will be no trash pick-up on Thursday; Thursday's pick-up will be made Friday and Friday's on Saturday. Regular routes resume on Monday.  U.S. Post Offices in Farmington and Farmington Hills will be closed on Thanksgiving Day. Both have Automated Postal Centers, where customers can purchase stamps, buy postage for packages and conduct other business.  Both the Farmington…

What's Open, Closed on Veterans Day?

Because of the federal holiday, there will be no mail delivery today.

While Veterans Day was observed on Nov. 11, Monday is a federal holiday.  That means there will be no mail delivery, and post offices and some banks will be closed. Farmington and Farmington Hills city halls remain open today, and Farmington Hills City Council and Farmington Planning Commission meet tonight.  Both the Farmington Community Library Main Library and Farmington branch are open today. A number of area businesses are offering discounts and deals for veterans that extend through today. What's Open, Closed on Labor Day

The Farmington Community Library will be closed Saturday through Monday.

As we head into a three-day weekend, ending with Labor Day on Monday, here's a list of closures and other changes that may affect you:  Most major retailers and grocery stores are open on Labor Day. Some smaller businesses may close for the weekend. Give your destination a call before heading out; use our Directory if you're looking for a phone number.  Farmington and Farmington Hills city halls and U.S. post offices are closed Monday. The Farmington post office in the Downtown Farmington Center and the Farmington Hills post office on 12 Mile both have Automated Postal Centers you can use to weigh packages and purchase postage.  The Farmington Community Library starts the holiday on Saturday, and will be closed through Monday.
