Learn more about how to join event sponsor Farmington Area Jaycees at their April 9 meeting in Farmington Hills.

Participants in this year's Farmington Area Jaycees Spring Egg Hunt in Heritage Park helped bring more than 740 meals to metro Detroit area residents, through donations to Gleaners food bank.  The total 849 pounds of non-perishable food items collected was 200 pounds more than last year.  Held in partnership with the City of Farmington Hills Special Services Department, the March 24 event brought out an estimated 500 children, despite chilly, windy weather. Participants played games and had the ability choose when they wanted to hunt for eggs as there were multiple hunts ran for each age group. There were also multiple raffle prizes for kids and adults given away, including a signed Detroit Lions football. Do you have photos from the …

Farmington Hills-based ACO Hardware is partnering with Gleaners Community Food Bank to raise funds that will help feed hungry families in Michigan. Panera Bread to Sell $1 Lemonade to Benefit Gleaners Food Bank

All proceeds from lemonade sales at area Panera Bread locations this Saturday will benefit Gleaners Community Food Bank.

The following information was submitted by Panera Bread. School’s out for summer, and more than 315,000 kids who usually get meals in school are home — and hungry. To help, metro Detroiters can “cool off with Panera” lemonade for $1 on July 21 to help combat childhood hunger in our community. Panera Bread is donating 100 percent of lemonade proceeds to Gleaners Community Food Bank’s Hunger Free Summer effort. Every $1 lemonade sold on July 21 will sponsor six summer meals. On July 21, Panera associates will be manning handmade and decorated lemonade stands outside of the cafes in a number of area cities, including their Farmington location at 34635 Grand River Ave.  In tandem with this effort, this week Panera is welcoming all Detroit-area…

Women's Power Breakfast Raises Funds for Gleaners

‘You Are What You Eat’ rings absolutely true, say health professionals at recent Gleaners fundraiser.

I just stopped at Hollywood Market in Troy to pick up some chicken, cilantro, rice, limes, tortillas, tomatoes and more. Tonight, we’re having tacos. While perusing the chicken prices, I thought about what I had heard earlier Tuesday at the Women's Power Breakfast, a fund-raiser for Gleaners: "314,000 kids in Southeast Michigan participate in special, school-meal programs because their families can’t afford to feed them properly." Thousands of parents in Metro Detroit aren’t lucky enough to stop at Hollywood or Kroger on the way home to pick up healthy fare for their young ones. And without healthy food, kids can suffer from far beyond nutritional issues. The Power Breakfast is one of the fund-raisers that aims to put a dent in that …

Trip to Grocery Store Could Help Feed a Child in Need

Hiller's Market and Hollywood Market are teaming up with hunger relief agencies to help feed more than 300,000 children healthy meals this summer.

Local grocery stores want to make sure the 300,000 southeast Michigan schoolchildren who receive free or reduced-fee lunches during the school year don’t go hungry this summer. With the launch of the 10-week Hunger Free Summer campaign,  Gleaners Food Bank and Forgotten Harvest are trying to provide an additional 2 million meals to children this summer. Every dollar raised during the summer campaign translates into eight nutritious meals for a child. The agencies have teamed up with Hiller’s Market and Hollywood Super Markets to raise funds and awareness about their summer program. Volunteers will be at various Hiller’s and Hollywood locations over the next few weekends accepting donations and handing out bracelets, balloons, stickers and …
