Farmington Hills Student Enjoys Exciting Year After Winning Video Contest

Hailey Samples encourages students to enter 2013 'Make the Play for Healthy Habits' contest. First prize is a visit from Lions QB Matthew Stafford.

Hailey Samples has had an exciting year since winning the 2012 Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan (BSBSM) "Make the Play for Healthy Habits" video contest.  Now a 6th grader at The Roeper School, Hailey thrilled her schoolmates at Warner Upper Elementary School last May by earning a visit from Detroit Lions quarterback Matthew Stafford with her tips for staying fit and healthy. Since then, she has made three video blogs. "The first one was an interview with Matthew Stafford," Hailey said. "The second was about staying active and being fit." Lions Quarterbacks Stafford, Stanton Seen at Adams-Harrison Football Game

It was no ordinary Thursday Night Lights in Rochester Hills. As the Rochester Adams Highlanders battled Farmington Hills Harrison on the field, Detroit Lions stars Matthew Stafford and Drew Stanton, a Harrison alum, were there to see it. The NFL quarterbacks remained rather incognito; Stafford was dressed in a hoodie and wore a Tigers hat. They stood on the sidelines. But the Highlanders student section got word of the pro football players' presence at the game and delivered a "Matthew Stafford" chant in the fourth quarter. Field security, helped by deputies from the Oakland County Sheriff's Office, had to clear a path for Stafford to leave. Stanton could be seen signing  autographs for Rochester Redskins players at midfield after the game…
