Born and raised in New York, Dick moved to Michigan in 1979 and had lived in Farmington Hills since 1991. With degrees in International law and and International Relations as well as Commercial Law and Risk Management, Dick spent most of his career as an International Risk Analyst (his transfer to Michigan related to the need of a corporate client for a local expert in International Risk Management). Dick is married to Caryn Brodie and has three children and five grandchildren. Retired in 2003, he has been active in a number of community organizations since then including The American Cancer Society avnd ACS Cancer Action Netowrk, JARC, various genealogy organizations and his fraternity alumni association. A "political junkie" since 1960 when as a college student he met then Senator John F. Kennedy, Dick has been politically active since, with good friends on "both sides of the aisle". He considers himself politically progressive but recognizes that politics is the "art of the possible".  In 2009, he and Caryn were given the Farmington Hills Adult Volunteer of the Year Award.
