When Will the Riley Park Ice Rink Open?

A chiller unit will hold up the downtown Farmington rink's opening date.

The boards are up, the pipes are laid, but a new ice rink at Riley Park in downtown Farmington won't open until after the holiday.

According to the rink's Facebook page, a new chiller unit "needs some adjustments before it is operational":

"It's better to be sure everything is in perfect working order. This step is very important for this first year and will mean a smoother installation for future ice rink set ups."

The long-awaited rink was expected to open in mid-December. An issue with getting electrical service across Grand River to the park has been resolved with a temporary line; DTE expects to provide more direct service by tunneling under the state highway that runs through downtown Farmington.
