St. Andrews Pipe Band Kicks Off Nardin Park Free Summer Concerts

The Farmington Hills church's annual series includes a traditional patriotic concert on July 3.

Summer at Nardin Park United Methodist Church in Farmington Hills starts June 19, with the church's first “Wednesdays at Eight” 2013 Summer Music Series concert, featuring the St. Andrew's Pipe Band.

The nine Wednesday programs start at 8 p.m., and admission is free.  

St. Andrew's Pipe Band, based in the Detroit area, will perform traditional Scottish music with bagpipes, drums and dancers. Other concerts in the series include:

June 26  Birmingham Community Concert Band, a 60-piece ensemble, performs under the direction of Grant Hoemke.

July 3 The series' annual patriotic concert presents A Musical Salute to America.

July 10 The Stardust Big Band 15-piece band, with vocals, performs hits from the big-band era. 

July 17 An evening with “Judy Garland” features vocalist Linda Freeze and pianist Mike Dempsey.

July 24 “Double Play”, featuring Amy Ridings on flute and Patrick Sciannela on tuba, returns with a brand-new program.

July 31 The Saline Fiddlers perform with amazing youthful energy and outstanding stage presence. 

August 7 Renaissance Voices, a 20-member women’s ensemble, performs choral favorites under the direction of Kevin Dewey

August 14 The David Bennett Quartet, featuring Dave Bennett on clarinet and friends, will perform Benny Goodman favorites and more.
