Farmington Homeowner Chases Early Morning Intruder

Farmington Public Safety asks anyone with information about suspicious activity in Bel Aire subdivision this morning to call 248-474-4700.

Farmington Public Safety, Farmington Hills Police and Southfield Police responded to two attempted break-ins at homes in the 31800 block of Lamar in Farmington early Wednesday morning.

According to a Farmington Public Safety press release, at around 4:30 a.m., a homeowner heard someone trying to open his front door. When the homeowner opened the door, a man ran toward the back of the house. The homeowner tried unsuccessfully to chase him down.

Southfield Police's K-9 team was unable to track down the suspect.

At 6:30 a.m., the second homeowner discovered a window screen had been pushed up, the release indicated. Police determined no one had entered the home and were unable to determine when the screen was moved.

The release included a reminder for residents to call the public safety department "if you observe any suspicious persons, vehicles or situations in your neighborhood." Crime prevention tips include leaving porch and driveway lights on overnight and installing motion detector lights in dark areas around your home.

Anyone with information about the incidents is asked to call the public safety department, 248-474-4700.
