Black Friday is the Dumbest Thing I Ever Heard Of

Talk About Dumbing Down America

Black Friday is the day following Thanksgiving Day or for 2012 right on Thanksgiving Day as soon as you eat your turkey. Most major retailers open extremely early, often at 4 a.m., or earlier, and offer promotional sales to kick off the shopping season, (There is nothing in any store that would make me get up at 4 a.m...in my day, that was called Reveille to wake military personnel at sunrise).

If you really want to get caught up in this frenzy, just go to any of the following websites:

Target, Kohls, Macy's, Best Buy, J.C. Penny, Wal-Mart, K-Mart, QVC and Bealls, etc. etc. just for a small sampling of how to ruin your holidays....

Yes, I said Holidays...did you notice that not one word about Christmas was mentioned...this is one more reason I became an Atheist.

Oh, I also forgot to mention the violence.

Retrieved from http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Black_Friday_(shopping):

"In 2006, a man in Roanoke, Virginia shopping at Best Buy was recorded on video assaulting another shopper."

"Unruly Walmart shoppers at a store outside Columbus, Ohio, quickly flooded in the doors at opening, pinning several employees against stacks of merchandise."

"In 2008 a crowd of approximately 2,000 shoppers in Valley Stream, New York, waited outside for the 5:00 am opening of the local Walmart. As opening time approached the crowd grew anxious and when the doors were opened the crowd pushed forward, breaking the door down, and trampling a 34-year old employee to death."

"During Black Friday 2010, a Madison, Wisconsin woman was arrested outside of a Toys 'R' Us store after cutting in line, and threatening to shoot other shoppers who tried to object."

Yep, Black Friday is the Dumbest Thing I Ever Heard Of.

On Thursday we give thanks for our abundant blessings and on Friday we trample other people for a chance at a $25 DVD player. Ugh.

When I think of those mindless fools who fall for all this crap from the mainstream media and those consumer outlets which need them to survive financially, I am reminded by this quotation:
"We've turned into this nation of overfed clowns, riding around in clown cars, eating clown food, watching clown shows. We've become a nation of cringing, craven f*ckups." James Howard Kunstler, author of "The Long Emergency"

I don't know what to "click" on to find the garage sales. They used to be "rightRead More there" when I opened the Patch email everyday. I am assuming they are now listed under something else and I guess I need instructions as to where to find it and what to click on to get to them. thanks

Grama, in addition to our Thursday map, you can click on the Events link at the top of the page, andRead More along the left side, you'll see "Garage Sales". Just click on that, and you'll see all the listings. They should be among the events in our newsletter, too. Hope that helps!
